    average size of NI litters

    average size of NI/BI/UTE litters

Just wondered what the average size of litters are in the NI/BI/UTE type breeds,

also can anyone tell me the average size of litters in any of the breeds used to develope the NI,

from my search on the net the average litter size I came up with for each breed was as follows

    Sibe 6/8

    Mal 7

    Gsd 9

    Akita 8

In Shila's litter there were 4 3 girls and a boy, her breeder had a litter at xmas ish time from a different bitch and had 5 pups. Her average seemed to be between 4 and 5 i did ask her and she did tell me but my memory is pants
Isis's mum had a litter of 9 or 10 i think i cant remember now

Off -topic posts removed. The op is asking about size of litters not mortality rate.

I just had a look at the breeds on petplanet and it says that average for the sibe is 6 or 7 the same for a Mal. A GSD is 9 but have been known to have up to 14.
I also read on the net that sibes and Mals are prone to reabsorbing pups if conditions are not right in their home enviroment.
This is stuff I have just read googling so not to be taken as fact

Not sure why you have the Akita included. Nevertheless, Kia had 7 puppies - 3 boys and 4 girls

I believe - but don't quote me - it's the utonagan's that have akita in some lines. Definitely not the Northern Inuit though.

So did the Utonagans use Akita after they split from NI ?

but even if they did the question is open to NI/BI/UTE breeders hence I said NI type dogs, I should have worded my post more clearly I guess

Reabsorption is not something I have heard of in Sibes in 15 years in the breed. Not saying it doesn't happen, but if it does it's incredibly rare.

We have recently seen some enormous litters (10+) registered in Sibes but I would personally be extremely cynical about the legitimacy of such a litter.

in the utonagan litters i've met,the smallest was 3, and the biggest was 9, but most of the others were between 6 and 8.
i've not met any ni litters yet, so can't comment.
i like all these factual threads, almost like checklists :)

The biggest NI litter i`ve seen is 12.. all survived. The smallest was 4.

Rumour has it that Mastiff & Weimaraner were added to NI at the begining, the latter for coat and eye colour.. and another non recognised UK wolf looking breed was smuggled into the UK way back too. But i have no proof.. only hearsay. So litter size could be anything really.

Could you PM me the link to this? It certainly isn't common in Mals either.

I know of Mal litters that have had singleton pups and the largest I personally know of is 13 (however a few have had litters of 13).

I've been told no, Shona, by people in the breed, but accusations abound.

Ok I could be wrong but from my knowledge of the NI I think the average litter size is usually between 6 & 8.

There have been litters with as few as 2 and as many as 12.

I guess the next logical question is average weight at birth?

Both of my girls and one of my males weighed 500g each at birth and the other 2 males weighed 550g each, (not sure how it compares to other litters though). at a week old the lightest is 900g and the heaviest 1150g.

Interesting - because I always wonder where my boy gets his height from - he is taller than sibes obviously but also gsd's and mals even - so there must be something fairly tall in there from way back - I know there are other tall male NI's too.
