Okay The Utonagan Association have someone called Carol who might be able to help as she is very hot on pedigrees. Google the Association name and there should be a phone number, plus an e-mail contact that will get through to her. I hope you get to the bottom of it.

You obviously never seen the thread where 2 small (weeks old) puppies died recently from symptoms that could have been VWD..

Also the HC testing would have to be done by a specialist not a vet

The HD x raying is usually done under GA which could have been done at the same time as spaying..and then sent to the BVA again its not something a vet can do

Actually i did see the thread. As i have already said i'm not paranoid & not about to become so, the vet saying she's in perfect health is good enough for me.

Yes thanks there is.. I am well aware of them all as I did my research and homework on my chosen breed and waited 18 years before I got one and also waited on a list for 3years to ensure my pup was of the best temprement and from health tested parents..of which I have copies of all health tests and I also have a HUGE pedigree which I can trace back all ggg parents and most of their health certs too..

Also the malamute heath "problems" are not brushed under the carpet like the NI lines do..Malamute problems are all in the open with everyone pulling together to sort them and eliminate them not hide them from everyone and refuse to answer questions.. ALL Mal health issues are out there for all to see and research..same can't be said for NI

As for the list you have added the link too..

HC yes and HD yes (thankfully neither to as big an extent as other breeds)

Chondrodysplasia (dwarfism) is very rarely seen in this country

Hypothyroidism again not seen very much

BUT Pyometra and testicular cancer affects ALL dogs not just Mals

Well i'm not a breeder or geneticist Louise so would be unable to assist your quest in answering any health questions. I should imagine if your concerned enough about the breed the best course of action would be to join one or all of the NI/Ute society's & ask direct questions there?
If i wanted questions answered about Mals my first port of call would be a Mal forum.

I dont' have any "problems" with my Mal and my first port of call would be his breeder if I did..And I own a mal forum so thats an easy place to find too.

I don't beleive I asked any questions about Mals or NI??

I am not a breeder or geneticist either but make it my business to know what may affect my breed..

I am sure you will find in time that the NI forum you speak of won't answer questions and deny all health issues!!!

We are merely concerned about the way the breed is heading, all the secrecy and lack of health testing isn't doing the breed any good at all

I have encountered some forums that dont seem to have much information available regarding health & yet there are other forums who seem quite open about it.
Maybe you should have a look at them all before catagorizing them all the same, there's more than one you know :002:

    Care to share which one??

Because the official one attached to the actual NIS has barred many people for asking questions

No one has been barred for asking questions on the NIS forum . . .

Just a warning but other forums are not meant to be discussed one here

Just a thought. We were at Paws In The Park in Kent at the weekend with our Siberian Husky Welfare stand. There were a great many NI's, Ute's etc wandering around the showground, and we couldn't help but notice that quite a few were wearing shock collars. How does this tie in with the oft-quoted "good obedience" of the breed(s)?
We have Siberians, which are not best known for their obedience, and we would never dream of using shock collars on our dogs.

Yes diabetes was another lumped in with my "among others"..

Not sure what your point is.. that is a US link again..

Diabetes can affect mals but is very rare too.. Aswell as Addisons again very rare..

If this is a half hearted attempt to have a dig at my breed then thats fine..BUT my point being..YOU FOUND IT!! its all out there...I am hiding nothing..unlike your own breed:002:

BUT please do quote UK links as things that affect US mals don't necessarily affect UK mals and their standards are also a bit different..

    ANEMIA (can affect any dog)
    BEHAVIOR Any dog)
    BLOAT (deep chested dogs)
    CHONDRODYSPLASIA (rare, mostly US)
    COAT FUNK (rare mostly US)
DIABETES not sure..I personally don't know of any
EPILEPSY I personally don't know of any
EYE PROBLEMS (HC is checked for yearly)
HYPOTHYROIDISM (never heard of any personally)
    IMMUNE DISORDERS (any dog)
ORTHOPEDIC (any dog HD hip scoring)
    POLYNEUROPATHY (never heard of any)

    Hi Louise
I dont know if i'm allowed to post links to sites but here are 4 you could have a look at.
    Hi Mick
Shock collars should be in a different thread imo this one is asking about the health of NI & Ute's.

If shock collars are banned here why did no one at the show tell them to get them removed ?

You could PM them to me..

DO they have forums or is it just breeder websites stating the same old stock answers (but not really actually telling you anything)

oops, sorry admin for the links (slaps wrist) Newbie & all that.

Sorry Louise i'm a new member & do not have the p.m function but a simple google search of NI / Ute forums throws up many suggestions (forums, not websites) Some are informative, some are not. Researching anything let alone dogs is a long process.

I have to say after reading a few N.I threads I feel that alot of me people give this breed and there owners a very hard time and are quick to judge, point the finger and often these threads seem to get quite personal...
    Why is this?
Not long ago I feel it was so-called designer breeds or first generation crosses and there owners(like myself) that used to be in the firing line.
Now it seems to be the N.I /UTE..whats up with that?
Is there always gona be a issue with some people about a certain breed...cross or what ever?
