when she was younger she was attacked a couple of time by other dogs, this made her very nervous. Infact to the point when we went to meets she would run a mile if let off the lead, on one occasion she bolted and swam across a lake about 200 yards. We really thought she was going to drown.. OH caught her on the far side before running onto a main road.

Sandra Curry was extremely helpful in these days as she was the only person who came forward and spent time with me, Freya and 1 of her dogs at a time to try and give her more courage around other dogs.

Then it seemed after her first season she started to get a bit more confident and would on an odd occasion, have a go at certain dogs on a walk. This got worse when she got to be about 18 months. It`s by far at it`s worse when she`s on lead - and around staffy`s, she looks practically rabid at times - with froth spouting all over the place. I think my dog has learn`t many of these behaviours from her. They are far worse when out together. I just spend our entire walk looking a mile ahead.. ready to change direction if i see another dog on the horizon.

yup socilaization is very important, as the breeder of rotties I can say,,, its top of the list,
But even if a dog has had a bad start, its possible to work through any problems the dog may have,, if the owner has the knowlage/or a good trainer to hand,

IMO you should work from the day you get your pup to the day it dies on socilaization,

Often dogs that were great as pups as they were well socilalised can go just as wrong when the owner gets them to 18 months old and thinks ok, everything is fine now and withdraws much of the training,

I got Shila at 15 weeks she turned 1 this week and she is outgoing with other dogs until there is more than one that her tail goes between her legs and she is very submissive, thankfully she was socialised with other dogs when we got her otherwise i think we would have had problems,
Isis on the other hand is 9 months and couldn't give a damn about any other dogs or people unless they are in her way on a walk then she will just ignore them and myself included but then this could be the husky in her im not to sure as it could also be down to the fact that she was allowed to what she wanted before we got her.
I wouldn't class shila as nervous but she can be wary of new things i.e our new bin  but give hernew people and dogs and she's a pain in the ass lol x

You tell me where my website says "THEY" are nervous. Honestly the twisting of what is said is unbelievable.

I will state for the 3rd time that my website says that Boris (and only Boris) doesn't go to shows because he is nervous in large crowds. Not that he is nervous in general.

Also as you seem to be taking notice of my website you haven't read the whole thing. Boris may or may not be a full NI as we do not have a pedigree for him. Therefore when I make comments about my NI's I am generally not including Boris in this.

I also find the patronising name calling that goes on on this site pathetic.

I love the look on your Border Terrier's face LOL!!!! As for do I think NI's and Utes look wolf like then my answer is yes as we recently went to the Scottish deer park where they had European wolves and Timber wolves and yes I've seen a good few NI's that look like Timber wolves!!! The Wolfiest looking NI I've seen is Lola a white NI who could pass for an arctic Wolf anyday IMHO. I personally am attracted to the look of the dogs and their wolf like appearance but add to their looks wonderful temperaments and they are a simply wonderful breed!!!

Wow. . Thats the first on topic post for about ten pages, except for mine which was deleted for some reason. Probably because i said Shona was rude.

So i will repost what i said.

Some NI's look more wolfy than all Husky and Mals. The same could be said for Utes.

For the 4th and last time. NO BORIS IS NOT NERVOUS....... yawns back

If you want to go pulling apart things I say about MY dog on another website then go ahead, but I will not be answering this same question again.

All I said on my website is that Boris was nervous in large crowds. He is 10 years old, had never been to a show before. We took him once, he didn't like it. End of. It doesn't matter.

It doesn't mean he is a nervous dog!!

LOL I didn't read the 19 or so pages as it looked like NI's were being slated again sadly :-( I agree some Huskies look wolfish and some Mals look wolfy but on the whole I personally see NI's as having more consistent type and being more Timber Wolf like.

Haven't read all of this but I don't see what the emphasis WErewolf is making about pups leaving at 8wks!

I didn't pick Cruiser up until he was 13wks..but all the pups were sold before the litter was born (good breeders do this)

BUt the extra weeks were very beneficial to the pups as they learnt manners from their pack!..I could have collected him at 12wks but as it was a 7 hr trip one way we coincided it with a holiday..he was collected fully vaccinated and microchipped with no break in his socialisation..some breeders would do well to do the same!

I dont know why you think I would go pulling anything apart on another site?:? Or why I would need to go to another web site,,, when you have made your position known here...............which if im right,, is boris is nervous,,in crowds and round other dogs as you couldnt properly socialise him when he was young,,,,

    think thats clear enough thanks

Most of my litter left around the same age as Cruiser did, THAT way I know the pups have had the proper socialisation, the only ones that left early were the ones that went to friends and family,,
I have to say, none of them have shown any aggression to other dogs,/people/ or had shy or nervous tendencys, poss spending more time with siblings has been of benifit

You can think what you like. I really don't care what you or anybody else thinks. I know my dogs.

Your attitude has just gone on to prove that my opinion of many people on this forum is correct.

Picky, twisting and pathetic with nothing better to do than try their best to pull apart other people's pets.

I will leave you to it and will not be responding to you on this thread anymore.

Taking my poor nervous dogs out for a walk if their brave enough to go
