Intelligent and trainable, thats a first then...
You've had a Rottie, a Vizla, English Springer and Black Lab, yet you think N.I are the most intelligent and trainable pmsl , thanks for that I needed cheering up lolllll !

I did wonder at the training thing, having owned rotties and had some hands on with your lot elaine, Im not saying NI's are un-trainable, far from it, but thought the rotties are a bit more straight forward to train, wonder if the temprament of rotties in other countrys differs that much,

I was thinking that about the other countries too, are the breeds bred abroad so different to ours, nature trainability ?
I know some gun dog breeders do say americans will pay a fortune here for a good gun dog...

I have just ploughed through all 19 pages of this thread, and the following statement just says it all really and shows the ignorance of many people about just where the dog came from.

I think it was ClaireandDaisy who said:

"it`s the wild nature of the creature, and this can never be bred into a dog"

P-u-u-r-l-e-e-s ! What ARE you talking about? Don't you know that dogs are the direct descendants of wolves, they have been reclassified as the same species? How can you waffle on about breeding the wild nature of the wolf into a dog when it is already there?

Dogs are just tame wolves, all of 'em, and long may they remain so.

I give up, I really do.

Im an NI owner, and having just ploughed my way through 19 pages of guff from a select few ,sorry prob make that six , (some) of who have a geographical proximity to each other, mmm strange. Anyway you are like school yard bullies who try to round on anyone who has a different opinion too yourselves. Inkliveeva , as someone who owns an NI too have the attitude that you have just doesn't make sense, (Can there be a grudge lurking somewhere in there, mmm )nuetrals can make up ther own minds there. As for the Rottie crew well at least you don't have to put up with , OH YOUR DOG LOOKS VERY WOLFY so give it up, acually i like rotties , nice calm dogs under the right owner ship, shame some don't have nice calm owners. I like Mals as well , but there just not as good looking as an NI IMO

Can I just say after reading all this that not all NI/BI/UTE owners are out for a fight!
I love my dogs i really do, I have given up caring about what other people think about my choice of breed because at the end of the day I bought my dogs, I live with my dogs day in day out no-one else,
I dont care what my dogs look like as long as they are happy and healthy (tests will be done soon to make sure )
Please dont take this as me having a go as im not and yes i do get on my soap box about things, I would just like people to know that not all of us need to give out abuse to people that ask questions.
Yes I know there are questions that need answering and NO I dont have the answers and to be honest i dont care anymore.
I have had my first NI since feb and i am fed up with the bitching, arguing, kicking off well all of it really.
Its just awful do you ever just sit and read what has been put?
If u do can u not see that its just going round in circles and going nowhere.
I know this is a pointless post but i just wanted to say that not all owners are like this and also no my dogs are not wolfy looking-do i care? NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST

All I will say is my dogs are not in the slightest bit shy and do not back off at all.

I have nothing more to say on this thread as I have no reason to defend my dogs. People that know me and them see for themselves.

All I will say is jrt's would be my last choice of dog but would I say anything nasty about them. No I wouldn't and actually quite like one that I know

No wonder I don't post much on this forum anymore

now see what I mean,, I say the ones I have had contact with are shy,, you go getting all wound up,
I notice that your profile says you own NI's what other breeds have you owned?
yes NI dogs are quite shy compared to other breeds, just as JRT are very aggressive to rats,,,{with the odd exception to the rule} many breeds are shy,,,,

ETA: I have trained loads of diff breeds, some shy, some in your face they are all diff/ is part of the sales pitch for NI's not " not aggressive often backs off rather than confronts" thus they can back off people just as quick as they back off dogs

    Hi abbie (again),

I doubt if all specimens of a particular breed (even NI's) are all the same .... kind of like jrt's in a way .... some jrt's are very bold with masses of character and other jrt's .. well ....even more masses of character and bolder again lol  Hope that makes you feel a little easier (without hubby the phantom poster pushing you away from the keyboard) lol

Having had four NIDs , none have been shy but I do believe alot of it is how the dog is brought up.

In which case, why would anyone feel the `need` to have a hybrid ?
Surely a non-hybrid would have been good enough ?
And why would anyone deliberately breed wolf hybrids if all dogs are `tame wolves` anyway ?
It would`nt be to create that wolfy look would it ?
and include some of the personality maybe ?
Surely not, after all no one would, lets say, use a 3/4 wolf / Husky hybrid as a stud with an NI bitch then call the litter Utes to cover up that they are part wolf, part Husky and 1/2 a.n.other breed, with the stud, [ the hybrid ], being claimed as a purebred of a `breed` to evade DEFRA would they - wonder if the hypothetical litter did look wolfy after all that, [ got to say hypothetical of course as no one would be such a charlatan as to do such an illegal mating of a litter to sell as pets in the UK, would they... ].
You would`nt know the answer to that `hypothetical` about what such a litter of `Utes` would look like by any chance would you Gnasher ?

My NI must have forgotten to read that bit

Placid? No, he's a total loon. He is determined, stubborn, strong willed and an excellent problem solver. Very high prey drive and dominant with other dogs.

Never showing aggressive tendencies? Ha! Mine is rather dominant with other dogs and is not afraid to back it up.

Will submit when challenged? Again, no. When challenged by other dogs he will go in fighting. He will submit to people if given a minute or two to think about it but we have to stand our ground.

He has all those faults and a patchy coat to boot but we love him anyway. He is also very loving and a total clown.

My two are dominant and aggressive towards other dogs (most anyway). With people.. they are shy when outside, won`t go up to people.. the male will bark though. In the house they are different... much more friendly with visitors.

Very high prey drive... have no doubts that they would kill any small furries they are able to catch (domestic or wild).. so far this has been prevented.

I have no illusions about the breed.. as so many other NI owners seem to still have. I have seen first hand the badly bred, the bad temperaments and the sick, diseased and dying dogs in the breed. It seems almost daily i hear reports of young dogs that have died from another type of illness or another.. the latest being a young dog died with Lymphoma.

I for one won`t be buying another NI... i love the look of some of the dogs but not the baggage they bring with them.

Sorry, I meant to say something about shyness and forgot

I have both a Rottie and an NI so I can see first hand the differences.

My Rottie is very outgoing, bold, and a bit over friendly at times. She can be a bit pushy when she wants petted and fussed on. She is not aggressive about it but does try and park herself on top of you and looks like the world has ended if you push her off  Sweet girl.

My NI could be called a bit shy but I see him as being more aloof than shy. He very rarely asks to be fussed on and when we do pet him he gets bored quickly and moves off.
With people he doesnt know/barely knows, he will just sit calmly and watch. If they try and interact with him he calmly walks off. When on the lead he will back off behind me out of reach and just watch. He doesnt actually show any fear in his body language.

We have owned various different breeds in the past (as it says in my profile) We now only have NI's as they suit our lives 100% and I cannot see us having another breed. To answer your question we have owned aswell as NI's a golden retriever, labrador, burmese mountain dog, red setter, great dane and pyrenean mountain dog.

Our NI's are extremeley friendly and outgoing with all people whether in our house or when out and about. I am a believer in early socialisation from the day the dog comes to live with us at 8 weeks old. I do know that one of the dogs that has been mentioned on this forum did not leave the breeder until at least 12 weeks old and possibly could be the reason why this dog is so different to one of our dogs from the same litter.
