Magpye - would love to see pictures of your huskymute, tried looking for them on the net and could not find any good pictures.
I like NIs because of their looks. I think it's the same with most breeds- very few people out of the millions of pet dog owners chose a dog purely because of its working ability or something. They are more than just workers to us, we find them cute, and we find them beautiful, so we're hardely going to pick one without any consideration to looks. Even when I picked my rescue dog- something which makes people look good, I picked her mainly based on visual things- how she looked at me, her behaviour, how 'cute' she was. It made me laugh and it wasn't purely for her benefit- I think we should be honest with ourselves! NIs may be good at various working roles, but lets face it- they were bred to look like wolves! That's why people like them- why feel ashamed, we all do it. As long as they are well bred, well fed, trained and loved etc, what does it matter?
I agree with you ...however, it seems that a lot of NI owners got their dogs because they look like (apparantly) a wolf ..and NOT because they liked the look of the breed. Isn't this the reason some unscrupulous people have , in the past, advertised the NI's as 'Wolf Look alikes'?
I do and Im in no way unscrupulous. The way they look is what drew me to them and once I looked into them fully by talking to breeders & attending their shows I knew they were the dog for me. Anybody looking at any breed of dog should do that before jumping into buying a dog on looks alone.
I don't think so ...liking the look of a dog and liking a dog because it supposedly looks like another animal entirely? JMO
You have advertised pups as wolf look alikes? May I ask why? (If you don't mind ) Surely people would have done their research before getting a pup and know what the pups will look like if they are coming to see a litter of NI's?
Because that is what I get whenever I take them out for a walk. No question to me when I see them in a pack how much they resemble the wolf. Some do and some dont it has to be said. And yes, to your second paragraph. If they have not then as with all reputable breeders they should give the potential owner as much information and literature they can before allowing them to take the pup home.
i was looking for another dog and was deciding on a few breeds. my first choice was a gsd as i've always owned them and a cross gsd. i was considering a samoyed which i done alot of research into (bought books and everything). i came across NI's on the internet after looking at utes. i had a gsd cross that really looked like a wolf as a kid. the look of the NI first drew me,but if they had'nt of had the right temperament i would'nt have decided they were for me. i spoke to a wonderful ethical breeder who gave me the good and bad of the breed before i had even decided if they were for me. after speaking to them i asked to go one the waiting list for the next litter. i got my beautiful xero from this wonderful person and my next pup will also be from them. i love the looks of the japanese akita but i would not have one as i do not think i'm the right owner or they are right for my family. i love NI's and will never go back lol
Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think anyone has said they only bought there NID on looks alone? It is no different to me than a Bengal cat, man made breed of domestic cat which looks like a wild cat.
you could say the same for me, i own large monitor lizards. boscs and a white throat. the reason i chose these particular species is because they most resemble the komodo dragon lol and they have better temperaments than other species. so it is no different
