my boy went from being very dark on his face to nearly all tan on his face this is him at around 11 months i think and his colouring now, he is so much lighter but still got alot of black on his body has anybody elses gsd changed colour alot as theyve got older
This is Sadie, she has GSD in her which accounts for her colour change. This is her as a wee pup: This is her now! You'd never guess it was the same dog so this is her in-between to prove it! She looked like a wee rottie pup when we first brought her home!
My cousins GSD was the same, he came home with a really dark face as a pup and he changed so much in the end his face was all tan.
ive seen some do the opposite though, they start off light and get darker as they get older i think its the sable colour ones
Both gorgeous dogs It is common for GSDs to be very dark as a pups and get lighter as they get older. I think they all do it to an extent, but as you say, the sables start off lighter and get darker. Here is Flame
Moobli, that photo in the water is just absolutley beautiful. Black and tans in most breeds do lighten a lot, especially saddle marked dogs. Often they're born almost black, as are sables, but sable lightens very quickly then darkens again in the GSD.
Thanks Pod. I was especially pleased with that photo as it was pre-digital camera, when I hardly ever used to take a good picture LOL!
Animals including dogs are often born a different colour to that of the adults in the same breed. In my own breed pups are born brown, but all adults are grey.
