Sorry to hear the loss if your dogs, if in somewhat strange circumstances !

I would not think that a Police Officer would entertain owning a dog which could be classified as 'Type' (which Irish Staffs - Pitts are) and therefore Illegal ?!

Maybe looking to another breed would be better and safer.

I`m confused - your husband is a senior rank police officer but he did`nt put you straight on the misinformation given to you by `the police` ?
Nor seem to know anything about dogs of `type` and Irish Staffs being often linked to Pitbulls ?
And your two elderly dogs just happened to go deaf, blind, and lose back end usage at the exact same time as each other ?
Or maybe its just me not seeing things quite right here :017:

Aye, that`s how come my Fluke is alive today, because the vet he was taken to for destruction, [ by his previous owners ], refused to kill him for biting - he had good reason to bite and the vet recognised that, and if the story about the OPs dogs` history is true, a vet would surely recognise this was no dangerously out of control dog which bit for no reason ?
For anyone to think its better to take a dogs life, [ and a rescue dog at that, for which any reputable rescue would surely have wanted to be told before the dogs life was taken ], rather than use a muzzle on walks if/when sensible to do so, that`s just so over the top as to be beyond all comprehensible sense and reason :?

Spece has awful fear aggression and we've tried everything including dog behaviourists. He nipped Ian a couple of weeks ago we had a girl in season and tow mature dogs and he went behind him and spooked him. A friend said once they've tasted blood will be agressive and have to be pts what a load of old rubbish.
Spens mortified and I also Blame Ian :( hes rubbish I never get even challenged, because I'm consistant.

That's why I asked if it was from Dog's Trust - they would have taken the dog back and ekpt it if it couldn't be rehomed :?

I would start by contacting the local breed cub to get info and advice.

Think there are clubs that specialise in the (pit bull) type breeds, they get together for weight pulling and other such activities. Not sure you would be able to source a reputable breeder from them though

I would also contact the SBT clubs for extra info.

I think that there needs to a lots of info gained befor even looking for breeders. Through the research you begin to find genuine people interetsed in the breed.

Most SBT clubs will have nothing to do with ISBT most will deny they exist as a breed at all. It depending on how you decide if a dog is a breed, a crossbreed or a mongrel, to most it would be thought of as a crossbreed or a Staffy type and not a breed at all.

There are two registries, one is the SIBTC and the other is the IKC(NOT Irish Kennel Club)They hold weight pulling events and such like but don't have any breed clubs.

Very True,It is a breed type and not a breed, they say they are breeding to the original standard,as the dogs are fitter and healthier, apparently the Show KC Reg dogs are short and dumpy, (not fit bearing in mind they have to be in tip top condition to show) and not able to compare or to do the events of the "Irish" a complete load of rubbish!

I can only comment on those I have seen or seen photos of and can only say if that is their aim, in most cases they failed.
