Does anyone on here own one of these dogs? if so what are they like? i know they are huge just i have been offered one and would rather take it off the persons hands as i am not too sure where it may end up
saw one in Barcelona - beautiful dogs.. here's a UK breed club site: http://www.rbtclub.co.uk/ looks to have some interesting info, and also a rescue/welfare section.. good luck with whatever you decide!
I've groomed a couple and they seemed to have super temperaments but as you say very very large! Not sure they should be called a terrier lol! Becky
I have met a few. Seem like nice enough dogs....very powerful and the ones I've met have been aloof with strangers (wary even) but more affectionate with family members. I think they can be quite a dominant breed and require confident handling. As they are originally a working dog, I'd imagine they need a fair amount of mental stimulation too.
There was a really good article in Your Dog several months ago. I would love one but I think you have to be careful because they are so big and bred for guarding. They recommended early socialisation and training. Good luck and I am officially v jealous
I have a friend who owns and breeds them. They are fabulous dogs, but big!!, the males are huge but they do seen to have fab temperaments . They dont shed, and although have Terrier in their name they are not Terriers. All they seem to want to do is sit around on her sofa all day, she has 4 of them......... A lot of Rotti breeders seem to be going into them also.
Met some at discover dogs at crufts. They ARE HUGE! look like a bouvier crossed with a giant shnauzer (spelling?) reading about the breed they are v much a guarding breed, friendly with family but burgle rs beware!
Just to say that they do not all have a 'nice' temperment and one should be extra careful if rehoming that the temperment is not the reason the dog is being passed on to a new home. I am sure if well bred and well brought up they will be lovely but if there has been a mistake made in the breeding or the upbringing you may find yourself with a large dog and a large problem.
Lovely looking dogs - thought I'd link this thread in for you. http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?t=80275
Yes, that is worth mentioning...I think some have had suspect temperaments....but hopefully breeders are being a little more selective in their objectives, and breeding for temperament, I know my friends dogs have supper temperaments. But like all breeds, you have to do your homework
No she does`nt, she only breeds when she wants a puppy to keep. But I can always find out for you...next time I see her.
Thanks guys, it wouldn't be for a long time and don't tell OH but you can never start your research too soon
If you think the dog could be in danger at some point take it if u can, even if u eventually take it to a kennel. Doing something for a dog like that is such a good feeling, even if it is annoying some of the time when the other person does not care for the dog as much as they should. Regards Stuart
