That sounds promising, and thats what you'd be doing giving a dog a second chance.
    Doodles are sweet.

Melzy - I think you need to decide which source you want your pup from. You say you are looking for a KC registered pup, but have then said that farmers/shepherds will now be lambing (which we are! ;-)). However, farm-bred collies tend to be ISDS or unregistered - NOT KC registered.

A lot of breeders don't have livestock.
I would still give them a call. Most breeders details are easy to find.
I know you're trying your best, I'm just giving advice going on the experience I have of breeders and how they like to be approached.
If you are emailing quite a few and none of them are responding can I suggest that there might be something in your emails that they're not happy with. I'm not saying your doing anything wrong but sometimes text can say the wrong thing or give the wrong impression.
For example If someone emails a show home and just goes on about wanting a show dog. Most won't even respond to them. For most breeders (good one's) they want the best life for there puppies, activities you plan to do with your dog is secondary.
My experience is that the breeders want to know more about and your situation rather than what sort of dog you want.
As I've said to you before, if you want to PM me I will try and help. I'm still a little confused on what your requirements are and what you want the dog for. Pet, agility, showing, obedience etc. Your situation regards work to me wouldn't pose a problem for any breeder, the fact you only work part time, sounds perfect. Sounds like you're finding it all very frustrating but don't give up. The right pup is out there and worth waiting for. Don't rush into anything. I spent over a year looking for that right pup for me. :D

I never said turn up on the doorstep, I SAID TELEPHONE THEM !!!

Breeders want you to telephone them, or in your email, ask them when it's a convienient time to call them or visit them. You now seem to be using lambing as an excuse. You seem to be trying to find excuses NOT to phone and visit which I find odd, considering you seem so desperate for a dog. WHat do you want ?? Someone to miraculously find you, find a dog for you and then deliver it !! Sorry but I've tried to give you good advice, which you not only have ignored but then shouted at ME for giving it, when you seem to be finding ways of not helping yourself !!!

Breeders want YOU to make the effort, they shouldnt have to ask you to phone, that is common sense !

    My sentiments exactly !

SO it's now my fault, that no-one will sell you a pup ??

Sorry for being so harsh, but you seem to be using every excuse, including now blaming ME, for not being able to acquire a pup !!

If you want a pup, do the legwork, do your research, CALL breeders, arrange to visit and visit them.

The title of your post doesn't help matters "I NEED A PUP" with an ANGRY face next to it, makes it sound like you WANT ONE NOW !! Any breeder worth their salts will make you wait, impatience will get you nowhere.

    It's not MY fault you can't get a pup ;-) :001:

I am sorry Melzy but you were given advice and good advice not only by Malady but by Bens Mum and lots of others on here and you just seem to pick holes and blame others.

You have not even responded as to how you got on when yourcontacted Second Chance.

I have come to the conclusion that you really don't know what you want.

Every effort is being made to help you and give you advice which is what you say was all you wanted but you just don't seem to be taking it.

I agree with the others Melzy........and personally I think this type of answer is not suggesting that you are serious. I think until you have sorted out your plans, then leave it alone as it sounds as if your confused with what you want at the present and that won't be ideal for a new puppy. Work out what you want then as suggested do the legwork, as no-one will fetch it to you I'm afraid. Also might I add, just because it's a Border Collie doesn't mean it will be good at 'Flyball' and there is alot more to owning a puppy than flyball.

i think its a good thing shes making plans for the future,id do exactly the same with work holidays.

I know Melzy has been really looking into the type of dog she wants, but it can get so confusing with all the different types out there!!!!! especially if youve been "out of the loop abit" & are very "north"

Also i cant see anything wrong with trying to find a type/dog that is best suited to what you want to do!!!!!

Two of my dogs were "impulse" & two were very very planned, 3 were bought PURELY to do obedience with, that dosent mean they arent much loved treasured companions but they were bought with a spefic purpose in mind ,& two of them bred to do that job!

    Hi Melzy
Thankyou for PM'ing me. I've had a look at the two kennels that you sent me. I am not aware of them but from what I can see one is very much working collies but the other seems okay.
Can I just say and I'm not being condescending but take a breath and take your time. The dog you will be getting you will have for 15 years or more.
All the way along on other threads and on here you were looking for a puppy, then your now saying you don't want a puppy. Slow down a bit and decide what you really want. Go along to your local Agility/Flyball club (i take it there is one as that is your intention) and have a chat with the people who have the breed.
The right pup is worth waiting for. I know you've got excited about having one now, but your circumstances don't look like they will change so use it to have a look around and decide what it is you want. Don't jump at the first dog that is offered to you. The hardest thing is to walk away from a dog but if it doesn't feel right then don't do it.
    Good luck :)

Have read through the thread and it seems Melzy wants a pup in the summer and is keen to source it now so she can make plans for it? Rescues are therefore not feasible for her as they don't know from one day to the next what they will have in.
I'm a bit confused as to why the OP is getting a hard time as her posts seem quite clear...she wants a pup to do activites with and wants some help in sourcing one. I aprreciate she may be getting sidetracked by the talk of rescues as we did too when we were looking for our pup, as it does pull at your heartstrings.

Melzy - I think all this confusion etc, has started from you original post!!
You now say you would like a dog around July-September.
This gives you plenty of time to decide exactly which dog/pup you would like and where you would like to get it.
There has been some really good advice offered and all I would like to say is 'Best of Luck ' in finding the right dog for you. :)
