I thought you had a collie (as per profile) ! Who's the dog in your avatar ? Hope I'm not the only one confused
does he look like a collie lol you should have went to specsavers thats max a cairn terrier x yorkie at 15 weeks he was my mates he had to be rehomed due to work comitments and NO he didnt go to a rescue he went to back and front door an family with 3 kids.
I didn't say your picture was a collie, I said your profile says you have a collie, so thanks for pointing that out, but I dont need glasses ;-)
What about this for a rescue Perthshire Abandoned Dogs Society Forteviot Kennels, Forteviot, Perth, Scotland, PH2 9BS - Tel: 01764 684491 Or contact The Scottish Border Collie Club http://www.scottishbordercollieclub.co.uk/
OK, I am assuming you cannot get a dog because breeders won't reply to you and you don't have transport !! How are you contacting them ? Most breeders dont want a random email. They would rather you phone, so they can hear you and get a 'feel' for you and discuss things with you, like your capability as an owner, the research you've done, your living situation and also to discuss their own breeding plans etc. Emails are often ignored by good breeders, who would rather people made an effort to call them. Regardless of where you live, there are buses and trains which go anywhere, (you don't have to rely on a lift !!) so nowhere is out of the question and again, breeders will want to know that you want to make the effort to travel if that's the case and you are right for a pup. The same goes for rescues. Hope that helps. Edited to add : many people have travelled hundreds of miles, all day, travelling many times, to visit a pup and meet the breeder etc.
the breeder agree to sell me a pup and i have been in contact with them since jan an other breeders i have been in contact with havent replyed and i have told them lots about myself, and i would go out my way to visit a pup IF i had one to go visit and would travel hundreds of miles if i had a car and could drive and had a pup to go and visit
Thanks for your pm ...but I meant are you in the town or in the countryside, as many members live in Perth or nearby and they could point you to a new by rescue. Or there maybe some on the web if you check. I see that you had some breeders in mind, breeding in the spring and the summer......thats only round the corner so to speak, have they not let you look at any or invitied you to see them when born so you can pick one
I travelled to stoke (4 hours there and 4 back) and wales (4.5 hours there and 5 hours back), by train, for my girls.
no pups are born yet and not getting replys to emails so might have to change my plans and look else where with im gutted about ive been buying dog stuff for weeks :-( im not in the town and i wouldnt get a collie if i was its not fair ;-) im near farmland and country roads if you know what i mean
what is this ?has some one offered me a dog and ive said no im not going to make the effort to pick it up NO so why all the digs about traveling?????!!!
If your interested I've just been on to Ask.Com and asked about Border Collie Breeders in Scotland....there are quite a number of them, maybe it would be worth you giving them a telephone call.
thanks for all your help i think ive emailed every collie breeder in scotland maybe hopefully they have there hands full with lambs just thought of that wishfull thinking maybe, maybe im being to inpatient
I think there has been some confusion with your posts and the other Dogsey members are a bit confused as I'am too!! Your original post stated that you need a dog - I know how you feel as I have been dogless for a short while when I have lost one. I think travelling has been mentioned because you said if a pup was offered, you would travel to see it. What I can understand from this is, if you can do that - then why not ring a local rescue? You can have a chat and ask them to call you if any collie pups arrive. Many pregnant bitches arrive at rescues and the pups always need homes sooner, rather than later.
Possible, but when we got Skye from Wales, I telephoned, so I could get a feel of the breeder as well. I don't think anyone is getting at you by saying you have to travel, but I think the telephone call is better than email as it gives the personal touch. We had to travel over 200 miles to pick her up as we had to detour off our holidays to collect her. I can understand your frustration but if you can not make journeys due to lack of transport, why not try another breed, say a collie x.......which you had before, they are just as good as I am sure lots of members will agree. If you rescue a young one say 6 months old, you will be saving it from possible PTS.
im confused to as i thought i knew were i was getting my dog but now i dont, i will take your advice thanks sorry to be a pain to you all
