has anyone got a silver lab? they look like they have been crossed with a weimeraner. they look really nice but the ones i have seen for sale have been very expensive. any info on them would be interesting thanks
Think you will find they are dilute yellows or someones failed attempt to produce a liver sorry chocolate by mating two together probably twice and finishing up with a dog with little colour at all.
Would take a guess they are bred as designer dogs, deliberately to catch the unwary into thinking they have something unusual, which in fact they do, Labs should be yellow, black or brown and no other colour although there are shades of all 3 colours and with bad breeding the colour can almost disappear altogether giving a 'ghost' appearance.
There's a lot of controversy over silver labs as they is enough reason to assume that another breed has been introduced. Becky
i just googled it(silver labrador) and found a web site, won't say the name - but they are charging £1,500 for an adult !!!! I actually think they don't look very nice.
I just found this Picture on google. I dont think they look very nice either. i do love chocolate labs though.
Now if that pictures doesn't show that there is Weimaraner in there then I don't know what does! Becky
Have met one as a pup and then again as an adult the colour is totally different by the time the dog matures. Seems you produce a freak and then sell it for 3 times more than you could buy a really well bred dog of championship quality. Suppose whilst people are vain or stupid enough to buy this sort of dog then they will be produced.
Apparently some do come out as a dilute black and people liked them and started adding weims in to produce more rather than a one off dilute now and then. So some have weim in and some don't. The ones pictured most definately have weim in them, you can usually tell from their ears if they do or not. I don't like them, they look like fat weims, JMO.
