It's nowhere near as hard as you think it is to train them up.

Just keep up with the hard work you are already doing and they will be as good as gold in no time, you watch.

They are quite similar aren't they Denis!!

I agree with you Colin, once you find what motivates them they are a great dog to train. Marius adores his obedience training.

    Hi everyone,
i got my first rottie pup nearly 4 weeks ago now. she is 11 weeks old on friday and is coming along nicely with her training. she is called vegas and is a little sweetheart most of the time, but is teething and gets a bit chewy when her little nashers are bothering her!

    she already knows:
    1. sit
    2. lay down
    3. paw - both
    4. high five
    5. stay
    6. no
    7. down
    8. bed

as well as the usual - dinner and wee wee!

she is learning new stuff at the minute:
    1) crawl
    2) up

she is also very talkative. does anyone else have very vocal dog or is vegas just a one off????

All my Rotties over the last 20 years have been very easy to train for both showing and obedience, although have been out of the ring now for about 8 years. I have always found them a very intelligent breed and possibly too clever for their own good at times !!!! Thinking they know what command is coming before I have even opened my mouth. As far as lunging at other dogs, I have never had one of mine do that, but I did have an experience of a boxer lunging and landing on my Rotties back at a champ show !!!!! love all the photos, I just have one left now and he is 11years and 3 months now and still going strong although likes to sleep a lot when nothing is happening.

Interestingly this is very much a Rottie trait that a lot of newbies to the breed are unaware of - as was we when we got our first Rott.

Some Rotts grumble away like a volcano!!! It can mistaken by some for a growl, but the meaning is quite different, when they are 'talking' it is when they find something pleasurable or sometimes they do it with excitement.

Marius doesn't talk at all, but my first Rottie Brandy was a huge talker, you should have heard her when she really liked getting petted:lol: She put people off stroking her though as many were afraid she was growling at them, poor baby.

lol if my lot get into trouble, they grumble and rumble as they make a hasty retreat,,,lol, I dont mind them doing it so long as they are going away from me, if they stood looking at me,,,, GAME ON they would be in a hell of a lot of trouble, lol

vegas grumbles in retreat too. she went out today for the first time down to the seaside and she loved it. we took her up the river to start off with, she got fussed and met a few dogs that wanted to play. we didnt take her on the beach though because she was tired after her 40 minute walk, she just wouldnt give up. we stopped for drinks and rests, but she was more bothered about the people around us and coming up to her!

it was her first time on the lead whilst outside of our home, she was a little hesititant at first, but with some encouragement and treats she soon got going!

she is grumbling at the moment, whilst i am typing, she doesnt realy shut up. she is very cheeky, she grumbles and barks for attention and stops eventually when we idnore her, doesnt take long for her to get board.
