Really? all other males i see seem to be alot bigger than him, even alot of bitches. hes really strong though.
Yes Kirsty he is correct heres the heights and weights of a correct GSD within the Breed Standard SIZE AND WEIGHT : Dogs : Height at the withers : 60 to 65 cm. Weight : 30 to 40 kg. Bitches : Height at the withers : 55 to 60 cm. Weight : 22 to 32 kg.
Is that an average? Daisy`s 34K and I can feel her ribs & she`s not that big either. I`ve had bigger bitches.
Hi Claire maybe yours are from English Lines which have bigger bones than Continental line dogs, when I had English 20yrs ago my males weighed between 50-56kg, now I have European lines they tend to weigh between 35-39 for a male. Pam
Phew! no diet for Daisy then. Although I think most of the GSD`s I see are a lot bigger than the first one I had so I assume the breed is getting bigger (from better feeding or bred up maybe?) The biggest bitch I had was sired by a German dog (Gotterisch von Fanto or somesuch name) - and she was a big as a male and extremely dominant so maybe some hormone problems.
What a great thread - i was gonna ask someone the typcial weight for a GSD as I just got my 7 month old bitch weighed and she was 27.5 kilos and wanted to know if this was about right and what fully grown weight to expect?
My Georgie now weights 46 kgs, which my vet is happy with, he's pretty big boned and he's male. I have to say though, Cassie was identical to him in height, but not weight, but then she was a very active gsd unlike lazy Georgie My vet told me the perfect weight for Georgie would be 43 kgs. but I could never get him down to that. You can feel his ribs quite easily and when he's wet he looks like a whippet so I don't have a problem that he's overweight. As long as you can't do your toast in their ribs, the slimmer the better because of the rear leg problems they might get when older. I've had them a lot smaller and also a lot bigger than my last two, but none of them have looked fat - except when Georgie weighed 50kgs, now that WAS fat!!!!
