Hi all She is absolutely gorgeous We are the proud new parents of Sky - a 7 mth old rescue border from Birmingham Dogs Home. We have always had rescue dogs - but this our first border!! We listened to all the horror stories about what a handful they can be - and fingers crossed we have a gem!! She has now settled in so well and we all love her to bits - we are all totally besotted! How do I add a photo?
Hi there, Welcome to Dogsey, and congrats on taking on a rescue Border Collie. To add a photo you need to first upload the image to somewhere like photobucket and then once uploaded you can copy the IMG file and paste it into your message and - hey presto we can see the lovely Sky As for the Border Collie horror stories - I have had dogs all my life and got my first BC 6 years ago, and compared to the other breeds I have had they no harder. They just need to be understood - mental stimulation is as important if not more so, than physical. Most BC's need to have a 'job' to do of some kind, be this retrieving a ball for you or agility or obedience work. They thrive on routine and love to be with you - whatever you are doing. If you are a reader a good book for all Border Collie owners is Understanding the Border Collie by Barbara Sykes, as it gives you an insight into how their minds work. Good luck with the new addition and I am sure that you will find lots of helpful advice on this useful forum. Regards Rachel
Rachel I agree! My first arrived nearly 7 years ago and I have had 4 in total, 3 of them are still here and I find them pretty easy dogs to live with. I was told they are a complete nightmare and that I was mad to even consider having one Deef is 7 next week and he still tries to outwit me and get me to do things his way but I think that is just dogs in general. You will never get bored with a collie that's for sure! Most of what people say about them is true but they have usually only encountered dogs that have not been given enough to do and have made their own amusement which they are very good at If you put the time into them they end up like mine, couch potatoes
there are so many little gems that are sent to convert us!!! This is Tara, she was 18months when i was "given" her & i was her 4th home! what a dog!
Aw tara is I love her spotty legs !! She is stunning what a gift This is my Bill he is 5 years old now... this was taken on our hols last year in Cornwall.

At last some piccies - these were taken the first weekend we brought her home!!! What a little beauty!! http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh57/pockygoes/P1010077.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh57/pockygoes/P1010075.jpg http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh57/pockygoes/P1010079.jpg Not sure if I have done this right - so here goes!!
How do I get them to come up as photos and not a link to photobucket? Sorry - I need a section on How to for Dummies!!!
Sky is beautiful ! How old was she on the photo's?? To get the photo's to show up on the thread you need to copy and paste the IMG link from photobucket its generally at the bottom of the photo to the right when you view it on the site. Good luck
Hi - Yes I have the book - and am trying to get all in the family to read it so they understand about BC's. I think we are converts already - I was even thinking about having another to keep her company - but the rest of the family voted against me - they want to enjoy her on her own - we have never had more than one dog either - so perhaps a good idea to stick to her!!!
They said she was 6-7 mths and the vets we took her to said that was about right - also said she would not be big dog! Try another PRESTO - thanks for the tip
LOVE the ears and the dark face....she is very cute, enjoy her as much as you can, getting another one wouldn't be a good idea yet as you would find that neither would get as much time spent on them as she will get now being on her own and they might actually end up more interested in each other than in you
Hi and Welcome to dogsey. Your pup is a cutie Where abouts are you in Warwickshire. There's a few dogsey border collie loonies in your area.
Aww she is so lovely !!! My little one is a titch at the moment too, but she has just gone 5 months so I am hoping to squeeze a bit more height out her ! lol Just wondered what you mean about being 'white factored' Mishflyn ? I am interested in the genetics side of things although I don't know a great deal .......any info would be great
