To be honest as the problems you describe are not unique to Dobermanns you would probably get much more help and advice if you posted in the Training and Behaviour section of the forum.

Not to worry! Was going to suggest you have a look at www.dobermannrehome.co.uk they have a forum and are incredibly helpful also lots of experience with nervous dogs from all sorts of backgrounds. They may even be able to help find out what her background is? Did you get any papers with her?

You don't say how old the dog is!!! not all puppys are confident in a litter you often get one thats more aloof than the others, it's down to the breeder of the puppys to bring them out of themselves and build on there lack of confidence before selling the puppy, then for the new owners to continue it, it sounds to me that she has always been this way and thats due to the breeder not having socialised her properly, so it may take a lot of time and hard work on your part to bring her out of herself, tell your O/H to speak to her in a quiter softer voice dog's usually take better to a womans voice because it's softer and quiter, as for her following you where ever you go I've 5here who come everywhere with me I would love to have a wee on my own but it's never gonna happen even if I shut the door they can get in!!!!!! there known as velcro dog's.

The dog should be rehomed via Dobermann rescue with people who understand the breed, not passed around.

I suggested she try their forum for advice.

I will pm one of the moderators on dobermanrehome but unfortunately I don't think they are in a position to go looking for dogs due to kennel space :/

yeah thats my little lady, she's pulling at my heart strings latelly, just finishing her i assume ( first heat) so she has been abit more clingy. but those eyes are winning me over more and more each day.. yesterday she figured out how to lift the child catch on the baby safety gate lol ! i assumed i had not shut it until i saw her doing it for myself.. some good news and a huge step forward she's beginning to play catch with my youngest son ( only when us two are in though) been looking through some socialising and training classes for her but want to get her trust and confidence in me before asking too much of her.

That sounds more promising and I agree that things should be taken slowly; it is important that she trusts you first. Well done.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I was slightly confused by other posts - are you trying to find another home for her (i.e. are you advertising her for sale) or was the ad posted the one you got her from?

Brilliant news!!!!! I am so glad! (was in the process of buttering up boyf but he is still dead against me having another!) Please do have a look in at dobermanrehome. Its a great place for those owned by B&Ts. Sooooo glad your sticking with her! thats made my afternoon that has!

my hubby is still on the fence about her and asked me to advertise her (but only people who were interested were people i could never let any dog go too) so so far im winning in keeping her. ( i'll get my way lol) she has such a quirky little nature on her when no-ones looking ... but found a few scars on her since she's allowed me to check her over more closely. not to sure what they are from but they are around her neck/throat area. old wounds healed oer but fur has not completely covered them yet. so next thing on our agenda is a vet check. last owners claimed she had all injections but no paperwork to prove it. so if possible i'd like all the done.

Aww, well I hope you manage to persuade your OH - its never easy when they're the one the dog doesn't like. Is he able to feed her/give her treats - that might help to be less frightened of him.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you both and look forward to reading her progress.

But, if for one reason or another things should turn out differently, please do consider the advice already given about breed rescue.

yeah she's taking food from him now and i try to encourage him along when i take her for walks.. i'm hoping he'll warm more to her when he see's what i do in her

Im sure he will once he discovers the true comedian that you have on your hands they are the funniest things!

can any of you old tymers remember my other halfs dobe ch chevington royal cashmere she got the bitch cc and her tittle at cruff 1988 she was lovely i will try to scan some photos then put them on here and i think you will see how they have changed
