nobody has said that one type of cross is wrong nor indeed that mongrels/crossbreeds are 'bad' so I really don't understand why you get so irate over it.

    Back on topic please guys.

In regards to the OP - it doesn't matter what cross or breed a dog is really, if it fits a certain 'type' you may still be at risk.

Research all breeds you are considering before making a decision. Perhaps it owuld be better asking yourself what type of dog you want and what particular traits you want of it.

Totally valid questions imo as crosses can be so different from `expectations` in temperament compared to purebreds.
I don`t mean that in a derogatory way toward crosses, [ would be a bit rich as I have crossbreeds past and present ! rescues mind you ;-) ], but the point being any breed traits might be diluted, or stronger of one breed than the other, or a strong combination of both, and there is no way to know until living with them individually.

The only sensible way to look at this aspect is to research the breeds concerned, consider the worst points, then decide if those would be too much especially if the worst of both come through...

Healthwise, tests are pointless as different breeds can exacerbate hereditary issues and new ones can be created as a result of a mix
In the old days, yes it was common that crosses were healthier generally than purebreds, thats no myth, however I think this has turned around a lot now as dna testing can pinpoint so many factors im purebreds and ethical breeders are careful about the dogs used for breeding from, whereas the dreadful `designer dog` culture has turned much of previous crossbreed health on its head, damn them :smt075

Hopefully its a case of the opportunity has come up at the right time for the family unit and the OP wanting to do the research before committing to a pup

We probably know the answer to that one - £££££££££££££

Just read through this thread and will not add my view on the breeds involved nor the practice of crossing breeds. However I do think it valid to point out that the crossing of these breeds could find the owner of the pups trying to explain to the authorities that the dog produced thus is not 'of the type' mentioned in the DDA if Bandogs have been declared to be.

Also think it valid to point out how difficult these breeds can be and that the temperament, character and construction of a cross will be unpredictable.

May not be a direct answer to the OP’s original post but useful none the less I would have thought it could just save the OP and a dog a good deal of suffering in the future.

If we all answered posts with a one word answer where possible, we could have answered this with a NO, then this forum would die, in fact you are not permitted to give short answers by the system you have to expand on the subject and this one was expanded to point out the problems that may be relevent.

I do feel it may be relevant (because new-to-dog-world people may well be reading this thread) to discuss the implications of the temperaments / characteristics of certain breeds, and how crossing different breeds may result in - in the worst-case scenario - the worst aspects of both breeds coming to the fore. A dog trainer I knew once (ex-army / ex police handler) said the worst dog he`d ever had to deal with was a Doberman / GSD cross because it inherited the worst traits of both (devious manipulative vicious basket was how he described it).
I looked up the breeds on Wikipedia-
Due to its temperament, the Presa Canario can be a challenge to train. They require a firm owner who is willing and able to meet the challenges a young, dominant puppy may pose. The Perro de Presa Canario is not recommended for the first time dog owner It has in the past been used for dog fighting

Cane Corsos are naturally reserved with strangers, but generally relax eventually. Corsos are a quiet breed who frequently suffer from separation anxiety.
Although many breeders claim that these dogs are aggressive, the true Corso should be indifferent when approached and should only react when a real threat is present. However, "the majority of the American version of the Corso do not possess the proper temperament for this breed."

I`m sure, by looking at these 2 breeds that a cross would produce a beautiful looking animal - both breeds are magnificent. However, as a dog-owner of 40 years, with experience of challenging dogs - I would hesitate to take on a cross from these 2 breeds. This is my personal view only.

without reading through this thread, I would say its not a cross for the faint hearted, as the owner of several large breeds over the years, I would need to do alot of homework before I considered taking one on, I would need to spend time with both breeds {which is were things get hard, as there are not many around } tread carefuly but if you still feel its right, great, x

If they didn't want to listen to others here, they wouldnt have posted a question

As for your dog having a better temperament than a lot of pedigrees you meet, how many dog shows have you attended.

The majority of well bred dogs in the country are shown by the breeders to maintain the standard of the dog, and therefore have to be better trained than most pet dogs and have an excellent temperament to even get in the show ring, so really it's rather silly to say that mongrels have better temperaments, when they don't have nearly as much training or put in the confines of a very busy, dog packed show !!

Maybe the pedigrees you meet aren't very well bred !

This is not really off subject, I was wondering why, given that there are so few pure bred dogs of either breed in the country why an owner of one of these breed would chose to mate it to a different breed, surely there would be a market for the pure bred dog? Also the PO lives in London, are there any in London, just wondering?

It doesn't matter. Many newbies and guests read threads on here, so if it helps build on someone's knowledge that's a good thing !

    yes it has !!

They asked a question regarding buying a designer bred dog, which would have had no health testing, so people were advising on this.

There is nothing wrong with education people in the right direction, so they dont end up with a badly bred, bad tempered, sick dog

You cannot train out a bad temperament from a dog bred from 2 dogs with temperament issues most of the time. Temperament plays a lot in breeding, which is why good breeders only use dogs with excellent temperaments !

So, yes, you can train any dog, and it doesnt make it have a good temperament, but I'm NOT talking of basic training, sit, stay etc I'm talking about heelwork, socialisation with hundreds of dogs to be acceptable and ringcraft training to get a dog to Show standard. It's VERY different from training a dog to sit that has a bad temperament. Show dogs are far from nasty with issues, or they would not be able to cope with showing at all or be receptive to the training they need !

    yes...
but come on, how many pedigree dogs are show dogs in england...far more are just family pets.
    AND i have met both.
my first reply was refering to the lady that said "'why buy a mongrel?"
My dog is a x of two breeds and I couldnt of ask for a healthier, even temp ,nice looking, lovable dog.
    I love all dogs....to me a dog is a dog, a k9...pedigree or x breed.
Some pedigrees are not bred for the right reasons as are sum crosses .....But maybe some on sould be asking the question why buy a british bulldog ..etc
knowing all its health problems...which have been breed into the dog for the sake of what?....pedigree...looks?
