I think it would be that it was less than 10, both mine were scored prior to compulsery scoring.

I do know howver that in the earlier days some breeders were scoring but due to the NI not being recognised and not well known about at the time, most were scored as crossbreeds or as the breed the x-raying vet at the time thought the dog most resembled (unregistered husky, mal or GSD), so its not that they weren't scored prior to 2006, they just weren't scored as NI's hence why its taken so long for us to get on the BVA list.

I know I was one of the first people to actually have my Northern Inuits scored as Northern Inuit's (under the Northern Inuit name), it caused a lot of confusion at my vets sorting it out and several phone calls by them to the KC/BVA to check how to fill the form in for the breed.

So what you are saying is that NI's have only just been accepted but Utonogans and Labradoodles were more acceptable  Yeah Right!

I don't think there is any need for that tone Mahooli!

I am trying to be as helpful as I can but if thats the attitude your gonna take then why should I bother. That is the truth as I know it, and yes why not?

Until I joined my vets practice they had never heard of the Northern Inuit but had heard of Utonagans! Just like most insurence companies that have heard of Utonagans haven't heard of NI!

Believe what you like I don't care but if thats the sort of attitude I'm gonna face for doing my best to be helpfull then perhaps I souldn't bother again.

nobody is saying these dogs are the devil personified, but i do believe that people are fed up of NI being pushed as/ made out to be a "perfect breed" with no physical or mental problems when its simply not the case.

Hang on I thought they were all NI's then there was some disagreement and the break away group called them Utonagans? So to me that says that NI's, certainly the name, has been around longer than Utonagans and Labradoodles yet have only just been deemed acceptable to go on the BVA stats?
I'm sorry but that simply doesn't make sense at all!

Interesting , is this supposed to be a helpful reply to those seeking to learn more about the breed or yet more smoke screen to head off awkward questions..

I hope Lucy is managing to learn something from this thread.

How do you know that NIs were hip scored under different names? Not trying to be rude, just wondering why, if you and your vet took the trouble, that a supposed reputable NI breeder would accept their breed to be called anything other that what it is?

I am going to assume you are speaking of yourself because I know good NIs, their owners and their breeders.

Sarcasm - The best way to deal with the harsh realities of life perhaps?

To cut a long story short without naming names, when I was first enquireing about hip scoring this is what I was told by an NIS breeder, I was also told that in order for us to get on the BVA list a get a BMS a bulk load of x-rays from the same breed would have to be sent off together otherwise the BVA wouldn't score them as NI's.

I sent my x-ray plates to said breeder being told they almost had enough for them to be sent off and I'd have my score within a couple of months. After months of keep asking I began to doubt that this breeder genuinely had enough plates and started searching for awnsers, this is when I was told by another breeder that they could be scored as NI's as several other people had already had their dogs scored as NI's and that I had basically been lied too.

I contacted one of the people who's NI's had recently been scored as an NI and found out all the info I needed to know, I got my plates back and took them back to my vets asking to have them scored and explaned everything, as NI's aren't KC reg they assumed that they would have to be done as crosses or huskys but I was adiment that they could be scored as NI's I knew others had been done and insisted that I would have them down as nothing else so after several calls the vets managed to get the info they needed from the KC/BVA to fill the form out correctly for my breed.

Therefore had it not been for my insistance my vets would also have had them scored as crosses or husky's.

Is this more wise words from one of the top spokesmen of the breed ?
You have a chance here to promote your breed and answer questions but I don't see that happening.

So how come they aren't on the BVA list prior to 2006? The only way they wont be shown is if less than 10 had been scored and that really isn't a good start for a newly created breed is it.

Sorry, just would like to add, that I also know of at least one long standing breeder who's dogs are all scored and in my opinion (having never personally seen her dogs BVA certs) if they had all been scored under the NI name then we would have been on the BVA list a long time ago as they only require 10 dogs to be scored to get on the list and she herself has a fair few, but thats just my opinion.

Would also just like to add that the NIS breeder who mis-informed me is no longer with the NIS.

Have you actually been reading my posts?

Because they would only be on the list if they had more than 10 scored under the NI name and prior to that due to mis information they were not being scored as NI's but as crosses or husky's etc!!! :smt021

If anyone wishes to ask a question about NIs particularly regarding health , but feels too intimidated to post it themselves, please feel free to PM me and I will post it on your behalf, I know Julie who is a top spokesperson for the breed will be happy to answer :) .

This will also help Lucy the thread starter to choose a breed.. :)
