Your correct there Borderdawn her pasturns are not upright, however saying that looking at the dogs in the flesh I personally have seen very few NI with what would be classed as upright pasturns (in the true definition of the term), with the exception of the malamute the other breeds standards state angulated pasturns, even looking at other 'wolfy' breeds standards such as the sarloos or czech wolfdog they also have angulated pasturns so when 2 of 3 breeds used have this trait surely it is inevitable that it is going to crop up more often than not.
labradoodles havnt got a type ive seen four in the flesh and they all looked completly different,so were are you looking????thankyou for your comments on otto, yes he is a nice dog,as for spirit hes actully a very nice dog and has a lot to offer the breed,my friend has just used him on her bitch and im hoping to have a puppy from the mating.
who said anything about anyone? And i`m speaking from experience and my own point of view. By all means advise Elaine.. Kain is not suitable as a stud if that`s your opinion... but why must a certain group of people make it so nasty. edited to add Abbie... it wasn`t so long ago.. you used that exact same expression about the other side.
as for everybody elses comments ,thankyou and we do welcome constructive critasisum,i think were moving in the right direction with this breed, all be it that weve still got a long way to go.but to hear that my dogs dont look like gsd, husky or mals is pleasing to hear.
Taking a pup from a bitch without seeing what a new stud produces is surely a bit presumtious...the question on Spirit was what will he bring to the breed as a whole and having tan legs is this not precieved to be a fault ?? You know my OH made a statement to me the other night and said in 3 years time you won't even know what a Nothern Inuit is supposed to look like...we don't know now so what hope is there. Otto came second in a show to a dog with a curly tail ? Is it coz he woz white ?
Aw no , no again an in depth standard being worked on in the winter, how many times are the goal posts gonna be moved ? I am really disheartened to read that. Might aswell agree with Joe Public then, yes they are GS crosses.
I think there is a misconception ref the colouring here. It says in the breed standard that 'black and tan' colours are a fault. Not tan, 'black and tan', this is a big difference. My interpretation of black and tan would be for example a Black Dobermans colouring.
Yes I agree with what you say there. Perhaps when the standard is rewritten, what exactly is correct, i.e upright or laid back pasterns will be clear, then future breeding will correct it, the incorrect pasterns will be bred out, which ever are deemed incorrect I mean. Angel is a beauty!
thanks werewolf, spirit isnt black and tan,i think what i put was im hoping to have a pup from that mating, nothing presumtious about that,as for your comment about us reveiwing and rewiting the breed standard, this is something that needs doing when developing a breed, but beeing a pet owner i wouldnt expect you to understand that, but please rest assure the goal posts wont be moving for youyour dog is pet quality and will always be that
I'm sure I have read solid tan markings on the legs is not acceptable, Kain gives not a jot, he is happy he has me for a mummy and I'm very privilaged to have him as my boy.
Thank you. Lets hope so, I'm not expert and by no means technichal when it comes to judging but even I can reel off problems and contradictions within the current standard.
Just been looking at Spirits pics and I haven't been able to locate the tan colouring?? Are we talking about the same NID? Regardless, ref colouring and breed standard I have not seen anything written in the breed standard to say solid tan markings on the legs are not acceptable.
Your right werewolf, only solid black and tan combined is a fault and like you say that is like rottie, dobe or some GSD colouring which Spirit is not. I can see where your coming from Elaine about his colouring in the fact he has black with some reddish colouring but he is not actually solid black and tan, he has a lot of white to break it all up. I also think you will find that most NI whatever their colouring will have some reddish or brownish markings on them, usually at the back of the ears and down the legs. link removed I think you will find the second and 3rd dogs down on the link are what is being reffered to in terms of black and tan.
I have actually never used the "exact same expression" about anybody. I also don't think anyone is being nasty here.
my experience with the NIS forum and people... i would never be so presumptuous to tell someone else if their dog is good enough to be a stud.
