Also been told that they are just small field spaniels and Diggory is "Most Defantley" a Springer!!! Not! i know his marking are some what similar to springers but he's small boned and looks like a dwarf next to one. :)

I think this is what attracts me too, the colour is just so rich and warm that I think their character will be the same (...or maybe its just because I am a chocoholic  )

Have digged out some pictures of our old boy amber now at the bridge. Sorry about quality of pics as they are scans of photos and are about 8 yrs old.

A clipped cocker. He used to suffer with the hot weather and this seemed the kindest thing to do!

I posted a thread recently about which breed my new one should be and I think it will be a cocker. I'm a gun dog person but havent the space for another weimi or a pointer which I would love.
Just one question tho? Are their coats hard work? I like low maintenace when it comes to grooming.

Cockers coats can be hard work, especially show type rather than working. I have 2 orange roan girls with coats that are great, so silky and tangle free, where as the other two are like woolly sheep and I have to brush them twice a day and still find tangles next morning. Lily who is black & white has a lovely fine coat, Poppy who is blue roan has absolutely loads of coat and is really hard work.

there are some beautiful chocolatey colours popping up all over at shows nowadays, like cayley said, it's just that show winning examples seem few and far between and when you take into consideration how swamped they are by gold, black and blue roans its no wonder you don't see them winning much there's so few of them. I know a chocolate roan is doing particularly well now and she is indeed a beauty.

Another question. What are your thoughts on rage in red cockers?

I used to groom a lot of goldens years ago and found a lot of them very eratic behaviour wise with the symptoms some people would call 'rage syndrome' They were happy as larry one minute then the next would quite happily rip my arm off, their eyes seemed to change and then as quick as it came on it was gone and they seemed dazed and confused as to what had just happened. Nowadays with more care taken selecting goldens to breed it seems to have all but disappeared and they are amongst the sweetest tempered dogs I've ever seen. I think with over breeding and byb/puppy farms churning out the flavour of the month problems (physical and mental) will arise in any breed, we had a lot of very poor black labs a few years ago too in this area, quite nasty dogs really and it wasn't to do with their upbringing (the only dog to properly bite me was a black lab when I put its lead on ,I know to approach all dogs well and wasn't to blame for this reaction as far as I'm aware) It's also interesting reading on an american grooming site I go on, they find miniature schnauzers and lhasa apsos amongst the most difficult bitey dogs to groom, totally not the case here.

I'm afraid for me they'd have to be black or chocolate and tan/cream. Just love those tan points me lol!
