I have a one year old SRHP that we are currently looking to re-home. It has been a sad decision as she is a wonderful dog but I have just had a baby and also have a toddler and she is just too much work for me. They are really affectionate dogs and love being with you all the time and I just cannot offer that to her. I feel she needs to go to a home that can offer more time and more companionship than I am able to. Let me know if your friend is interested! I would only consider a good, loving home for her.

    Hi Suzannah,

I'm sorry you are having to rehome your dog. That's heartbreaking. My dog is also a year old, they're not from the same litter are they? My dog grey is Stormdancer Swoop.
Have you let the breed club know? They might be able to help.

    Hi Suzannah,

I've had another thought: You might want to contact weimaraner rescue and pointer rescue. This website doesn't let me post links I think. If you wanted to mail me the area of the country you're in I might be able to put you in contact with decent local rescues good at getting good homes. I can be contacted at greytheslovak AT google mail dot com

    Hi there
Thank you for your ideas - we will certainly look into those if we decide to rehome her - I am very torn as I adore her. Hopefully she will be able to stay with us. I think she must be from the same litter as yours. She also had a terribly upset tummy when we got her for a long time and the vet gave us the same reason as yours. Do you think it is a bug they left the breeder with? Her tummy was very bad on and off for about 6 months we were always at the vets but it seems to have calmed down now.
Anyway - thanks for the advice, hopefully the summer coming will mean she can stay and maybe be less of a handful by the time to winter comes roud again....

    Hi Suzannah,

Like Ros, I really hope you manage to keep your girl. Hopefully the summer and the fact that he's a bit older and maybe will become easier to manage will help. I know Grey seems to have turned a corner as far as energy levels go. He mostly sleeps when we're at home and doesn't need so much exercise as you think if you give them other things to do/learn.

I'd love to see a piccie of your girl seeing as it sounds like Grey's sister. I can send you a link to a picture of Grey and his brother Gunner if you like if you email me. I don't think I can send you a personal message via this site?

re your girls runny bum, did you get her tested at the time then? It's something I'm still keeping an eye on especially since Grey's brother Gunner, is just getting over this massive pain issue, which now has a possible diagnosis of Diskospondylitis which has a possible link to infections.

    Hello fellow slovak peeps,

Just a quick note to see how you all are. Is there anyone still reading this thread?

Grey is doing well. Mostly snoozing through this hot weather.

Hi I'm new to here, I also have a slovak (and don't know anyone else that has one!) would be good to get some advice from you guys, I adopted her at the age of 3 and a half, I've had her a year now and she is the gentlest thing ever, I love her to bits but she just wants to be with me ALL the time, is this typical of the breed??!! I've only had labradors in the past, and she has proven to be a steep learning curve!!
She also suffers very badly with seperation anxiety, I can't leave her in the house by herself at all, and she suffered with a bad tummy for 4 months recently when she could only eat chicken and rice!
Would be good to know if any of you have had similar problems with your slovaks? On the up side, they are great fun to have around, I wouldn't swap her for the world!!

    Hi Lucy!

Lovely to meet you! My dog Grey had a terrible tummy when I got him and it turned out to be due to infections. We ran fecal tests and found campylobacter and giardia so when we got the right antibiotics it cleared up. Grey's brother Gunner had an undetected infection in his spine which was probably made worse by it being undetected for a while and the symptoms made less by pain killers which masked the real condition. His owner always advises now getting tested for underlying infections. The research I have done into it is that some dogs can be carriers of infections and it can flare up later and be more serious. Someone else on this thread had a puppy from the same litter and also had infections and a troubled digestion for a while.

I don't have problems with separation anxiety now. When I first got Grey he was extremely clingy until he was 6 months old and didn't like me to leave the room. He's fine now. I always give him a chew as I leave and I don't make a big thing about it. Perhaps your girl is more clingy because she's a rescue? What's her story? Are you her second home?

I have an email address which is greytheslovak AT googlemail dot com in case you want to get in touch. There are also a few of us on flickr if you search for the slovakin rough haired pointer group.

Where about in the country are you?

Have you got teeth problems at all btw? Just curious as my dog grey's are terrible. in fact we discovered this weekend he may still be in some discomfort. Poor thing.

hi great to meet a new slovak owner and we are a nosey lot so we will want to know all about her and see some photos, they are lovely dogs and im glad you are getting on with her sorry to hear she has a dodgey tummy i havent had any problems with mine which is surprising as shes a terrible theif ,as for the seperation anxiety i have had weimaraners for many years and they are terrible for it but with a lot of patience you can get them used to being left found the best way is leave them for a few minutes several times a day ,just go in the garden or something and never make a fuss about going or coming back, and gradually leave her for longer at a time my slovak maggie has never been bothered about being left which was a real bonus and this has helped my weimy, it would be intreresting to know if seperation anxiety is common in the slovaks having so much weimy content although mine dont have many weimy personallity traits at all totally different in their ways, but are both greedy love them both but i find the slovak easier hope you keep in touch and would love to see some pics etc

Hi Lucydog and welcome to Dogsey and your great choice of dog breed. I have had my Slovak Mishka for 2 years now and yesterday went to my friends to have the pick of the litters for my next Slovak Anya. What a day, it was ACE getting in with all those beautiful babes.

I will be bringing her home in 3 weeks time, that will be a very long 3 weeks but worth it.

Here is a short video I took yesterday for you to see.

Aren't they lovely when they're little! How did you choose your individual pups? Or was it love at first sight?

I've been meaning to ask for a while about how the rest of you get on with lead walking your slovak. Did yours pull lots and did you see a difference in age at all for improving?
