ok my little choc had his plums done yesterday,i took him to the vets at 8.30 and it broke my heart having to leave him there,he went mad when i left!!! he went mad when i went to pick him up,then the vet took out a plastic cone collar that he has to wear cus he keeps licking the wound.he hates it,he keeps bumping into things and its making him really depressed,he just sits at the top of the stairs with his head drooping to the floor,we took it off him for a bit last night and he was much better,so much better that he found it in him to chase the cat!!!! well it had to go back on him when we went to bed and he got all depressed again and was still sat at the top of the stairs when we got up this morning :-( he wouldnt do anything,he wouldnt go outside, drink or eat so ive taken it off him again and hes fine again, infact,im struggleing to get him to keep calm and rest!!!!!!! do you think it would be ok to keep it off?is it really that much of a problem that he is licking his wound?
Dont let him lick it!! Put a t-shirt on him and tie it at the back instead, that's what we've had to do with Max's wound. The stitches could get infected , or he could move or pull them by licking it, so keep him away from it.
Poor Choc, they hate those lampshades :-( Try the tshirt trick and see if it works. At least one thing though..if he chased the cat he's alright in himself.
im not sure, ive just had a look but cant see anything, there defo arnt any stitches there tho i can see that much.im trying to find an old tshirt that isnt going to be huge on him bless him.i just cant watch him with that collar on he hates it and gets really depressed. could be bandage it up?
yeah hes still his usual mad, bossy sel when he doesnt have the lamp shade on the min it goes on tho he turns into a different dog,he does nothing,my poor baby i cant watch it so im following him around sayin no everytime he starts licking it just so he doesnt have to have it back on
if he licks it the wound will get sore or worse infected. how is a t shirt gonna help if it his plums...........
You could tie it as far down his back as it will go (covering all his bits etc), and just roll it up for toilet visits
hey all, we tried the tshirt thing,we had to tie it so it covered his bum too otherwise it wasnt covering his bits, anyway he decided he didint like it and was going mad trying to get out of it,sooooo what we did was use a pair of my oh's boxers, and he kept them on all night untill about 7ish this morning when he woke us up to go to the toilet,so i think we are going to stick with them for a while, ill try and get a pic on here.
he didnt seem to mind having them on either which is a bonus. Ive been looking at his wound and im still trying to answer your question about what they have used instead of stitches on the outside and i cant see anything, they defo arnt any stitches, think im going to have to call the vet and ask cus im miffed about it now,and hes getting feb up with me keep getting my nose right between his legs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if they've used some sort of "skin glue"? Poor lad! Max is getting sick of having to roll on one side whilst I bathe his incision site too!
its a shame for them isnt it? it really upset me watching his lil face when he had that collar on.Hes fine now tho,I have to keep putting him in the kitchen on his own to calm down,im worried hes gonna tear the wound open the way him and his sister are playing around!!!! what has max had done?I hope hes feeling better
We found a lump a couple of weeks ago, and since he is a Boxer and they're prone to cancerous lumps, the vet suggested they take it off ASAP. I never realised they would take so much skin though Max has already slightly stretched his wound. The top and bottom are closing really well, but the middle bit has stretched open a bit (well, you try keeping an 11 mth old Boxer "calm"). The vet has said not to worry about it, but that it might just take a little longer to heal than the rest of it. I've been making sure it's clean by using a diluted hibiscrub wash on it every couple of days, as Max likes to roll on carpets/wet grass/pavements etc.
oh bless him,at least its done now and hes on the road to recovery,i dont envy you tryng to keep a boxer "calm" im having enough trouble trying to keep a little calm!!!!!!
Sounds like he has come through his op without any ill effects Can't wait to see a picture of him in his boxer shorts
well, the wound is so smal when "the bag" contracts after removing plums, that it is left to heal by itself, it sticks together imediately, you know, the scar and so on, as you usually do more damage with stitching it. with cats, no internal and no external stitches are used.
thanks for clarifing that for me.i thought it was strange when the vet said they hadnt used any external stitches.
