Hello Lucky Star Many thanks for all your advice and the information, also for those links you have given me. I really do appreciate them very much and the time you took to put up your post too. I felt helpless but with your responses and everyone on Dogsey, I feel a good bit better. I want to take Loki off that dry food - she really hates it and that was the reason I thought another brand would be better. I have gone back to JW brand for her evening meal yesterday. She slept all night - I didn't as I was anxious in case Loki took another, however, she slept all night. Today she was in high spirits - wish I could say the same! I am not sure when to take her to run around the field again. I am apprehensive in case she takes a fit whilst running free. I wonder if you could please give me a wee bit of advice on that? I did contact the Breeder, Mrs Coyle, asking her if any of Loki's relatives had a history of epilepsy but I was told that there has been no history of anything, such as epilepsy.
So glad that Loki is up and about and full of life! Been thinking about you and hoped no more fits! The drinking is another side effect so don't worry abut that! I would take her out and treat her as normally - I can honestly say my girl never fitted whilst out. Regarding raw - I started with just tripe and then progressed to other minced meats - then chicken waste from the butchers. I can send you a link to a great site that really gave me the inspiration to go the whole hog as like you I was half kibble half raw. You can get a lot of meats from PAH from their freezers. My main concern was amounts but with the link I can send you I soon got over that and now do it by sight! I'm glad Loki is feeling much better - you will too soon I'm sure - it is a great worry isn't it as you just never know when the next one is coming. More hugs your way to both of you.
Oh thank you, Rachel, that would be terrific if you could send me those links! It has been a worry for me because she hates the kibble and I would much prefer giving her food she will eat! Loki slept all last night until 7 am this morning when she got up to drink. She ate some of the kibble I put out for her. I gave her a chicken breast just now with it and she ate the lot (I cook her food at the moment!) I will start taking her out again - I was just apprehensive about it in case she went into a fit. Hey Rose - I'm so glad she slept well, she will need lots of rest after a fit. I forgot to mention food too - they get really hungry after fits and their blood sugar needs raising. Low blood sugar can sometimes cause fits in some dogs and I would think your vet will consider this. I feed Loki 3 meals a day, plus I give him a spoonful of organic ice-cream before bed. Don't know if it does an awful lot but it was on the Guardian Angels advice. He seems to look forward to it anyway . I don't know how true it is but I did read about the possibility of potato being good and gluten products not (which are often in prepared dog food) - look up Dr J, potato and gluten and epilepsy on google. I should think it would be fine to take Loki out for a walk . We don't hold back on our Loki's walks during fits unless he seems reluctant, although obviously we don't go so far when he's wobbly and we keep him on the lead unless there is lots of space around him. Sometimes it's amazing as he is all wobbly at home, yet on the walk he seems to go almost back to normal. Almost. He has never had a fit during a walk. I know it can happen but I think most dogs seem to have them when resting? His are usually when he's sleeping, poor lad. I'm so sorry this has happened to Loki and I know how awful it is to see. You can really only keep her head from banging on things and let it happen. The after effects, the post-ictal phase is, for me, the worst. xxxxx
I have replied on the Ute Dog Club Forum regarding the relationship query you made, and there is a definate link. I remember L.S also found many possible 'triggers' in dried food when it first happened to her Loki, so it would be well worth you moving her onto raw as the health benefits are well documented. Don't worry about cooking it at all, she well get more out of it if she is fed raw, instead of giving her a cooked chicken breast just give her a raw one. If she is unsure about it at first, zap it in the microwave for a couple of minutes so it is semi-cooked and then gradually reduce the amount of time you zap it until she is eating raw. Glad to hear you had a calm weekend. It could just have been a one off, but I expect you will find out more once your vets have got the test results back.

Loki - taken Monday, 23 January 2007. My friend took Loki out to one of the local fields and she loved every minute of it - getting back out and about again was great for her. Many thanks once more to all of you for all your help and advice you have given me. I bought the Milk Thistle - they are in capsule form, so I opened one and put it into mince I gave her. Hope that was the right way to give it to her. Again, thank you everyone.
Hello Lucky Star, yes, Loki lost her appetite and found a horse's! She has never eaten so much in her life! A friend, as I said in a response above, took her out today. Up until then, I was so apprehensive. about taking her out myself. Now I will do and try not to think about it. It was awful and when she came out of them, she sensed something had happened but didn't know what. Hope you like the pic taken on her outing yesterday (Monday). Just a wee update on Loki I took her to the vet this aftenoon - walked her there and she enjoyed the long walk. It was the lady Vet - and I think Loki was disappointed that it wasn't the male Vet! I was told to keep her on the tablets, same dosage, one tablet in the morning and one in the evening, for another 4 weeks. At her next visit in 4 weeks time, she is due for her booster shot, the vet will give her another 4 weeks supply of tablets and will also take a blood sample. The Vet also said that I would be given another 4 week supply of Epephen. After which Loki, if fit free, may have the dosage reduced. Loki has gained a bit of weight, which I am delighted at She now has a wee pot belly that swings when she walks I was a bit disappointed that the 2 tablets per day were not reduced to at least, one per day. Still I can't complain. I am giving her each morning the Milk Thistle. Again, everyone, thank you very much for all your helpl and advice and I will keep you updated.
