Would you be willing to pay for a licence?

Hope nobody minds me putting this on :)

Just thought it would be interesting to see who would be willing to pay for a licence IF this became law to own a dog? :)

Depends how much they charge and whether it's one off fee or per dog per year.

Just say for arguments sake  it would cost the same as a car test. Which is £48.50? :)

It would be a one off fee, for you to be licenced to own dogs, rather than a licence for the dog :)

That's the first thing I thought of - I would as a law-abiding person buy one, but would like to know what the money funded.

Also, I would hate to have to licence my dog in a country which is rapidly becoming anti-dog and my breed being one of the ones targeted.

Yes I would be willing to pay.

However I don't think it has to be a one licence per dog system. I would think something similar to the driving licence would be better, where a licence signifies the person has undergone the absolute minimun required to own a dog. Each licence should list each dog that person owns with descriptions and chip numbers etc.

I'd pay for a licence system and think £20 per year is reasonable or perhaps a one off payment like others have suggested, but would want this money being ploughed into something dog related like welfare.

I would be prepared to pay but would be miffed like with car insurance about the people who don't pay,but I suppose we are always going to get that in life.

Well if it became law whether I was willing or not would be pretty irrelevant, but I wouldn't be happy about it. Yet more taxation and nothing in return, and those it is supposed to target would probably still not pay. Just us law abiding citizens picking up the tab yet again.:x

If it became law I would have one, yes. The only thing that would get me would be another database with my information on. I'm very funny about who I give my details to but if it was the only legit way to keep a dog then I would.

Yes I would be willing to pay for a licence. I used to pay the grand old fee of thirty seven and a half p a year back in those days when we had to have a licence for each dog.

I think Azz's idea about the owner being licenced is the right way to go - with everyone being accountable for their dog and it's welfare. It would also assist in finding the rightful owners of lost or stolen dogs. Those people who didn't comply with the system would be likely to have their dogs taken off them - but then it would only be the irresponsible owners who don't bother to socialise or train their dogs who would be affected in the most part IMHO.

I would be happy to pay. I think the fee should go towards enforcing the licencing law - providing training, investigating & prosecuting unlicenced owners etc. To me that is going towards dog welfare.

It would need to be very tightly run though - how do you certify someone has met that minimum standard, what do they have to do etc. Do they pay for the cost of training themselves. Who certifies they've passed it - I can see rogue 'trainers' handing out passed stamps to people who pay enough money rather than actually doing the training, for example.

I have a gun licence, I have a car licence, in the past I have had a dog licence.
If it comes to pass again that dogs are to have this then I would pay. I don't want to lose my girls.
The money needs to go towards something worthwhile. And you shouldn't be able to just buy a licence there should be some form of testing suitablity to own a dog.
