Great because weight pulling has been mentioned in the news i guess that is another level, just like tread mills are seen as used only by dog fighters (when its an fitness aid mainly) then i guess weight pulling is next and break sticks should be in every multi molosser breed household! people who use weight pulling, breaking sticks and tread mills must be careful now, because it comes with the image of dog fighting or pitbulls and types, what a shame because all 3 of them are a great aid and need to the bull breeds
Why are weight pulling, tread mills and break sticks a necessity for bull breeds? To me, from all that I've seen and admittedly that isn't much, these are solely to build up a dogs muscle for fighting. What I have seen of weight pulling was dogs being 'stimulated' (read aggravated) by having balloons waved in front of them. Imagine if those dogs got out and saw a child with a balloon! Becky
becky this is what i mean your perception is like many others, it can and only will lead to death of innoccent dogs I suggest u go to a weight pulling event and have a look for yourself, reading what the media type is not what is always true with respect hayley
if they extended it to cover sbt's what would that mean for other dogs?????? i mean staffies are people dogs(even better with children) and would love to know how many dog attacks there are a day and how many were by staffies
The material found on a remote farm at Tandragee, where 28 pit bull terriers were recently confiscated by council officials, is believed to reveal the identities of pit bull-fighting enthuasists not only in Northern Ireland but in the Republic, Great Britain, Holland, France, Finland and even the USA. USPCA chief executive Stephen Philpott said: "According to what we have seen, dogfights are organised in Londonderry, Ballymena, Belfast and Newry. This is more widespread and organised than we could ever have imagined." Two RSPCA special operations unit officers, specialists in investigating organised cruelty, who travelled to Belfast to examine the material siezed in Tandragee said it was "the biggest intelligence coup ever" against illegal blood sports in Europe. They are investigating, among other matters, whether loyalist or republican paramilitaries are linked to clubs which take part in dogfighting contests in which prize money can reach £25,000. A three-month amnesty for pit bull terriers in Londonderry has been announced by Derry City Council. It will run until April 30. Dog wardens, on request, will visit homes to determine the breed of a dog. If it is found to be a pit bull it will be taken away and destroyed. Alternatively, pit bull owners can leave their dogs at the Pennyburn dog pound without fear of prosecution. Philip O'Doherty, Londonderry's chief environmental health officer, said: "It should be stressed that the dog wardens have received a large number of queries to date and that in all visits to these properties no dog having pit bull characteristics was discovered. "Unfortunately, people all too often mistake a Staffordshire bull terrier or a Staffordshire bull terrier cross-breed as being a pit bull. "However, the council would still prefer to err on the side of caution and will visit all properties notified."
SECTION 1: DOGS OF A TYPE BRED FOR FIGHTING Specially controlled dogs 4. From 12 August 1991, section 1 of the Act applies special controls to (i) the pit bull terrier, (ii) the Japanese tosa: and, as the result of SI 1991/1743, (iii) the Dogo Argentrino; and (iv) the Fila Braziliero. 5. There are powers under section 1(1)(c) for other types of fighting dogs to be added to this list. In practice, this is more likely to occur in order to support an import ban on new types of fighting dog which are currently abroad, rather than on additional types of dog already in this country. Cross-breeds of the pit bull terrier with other dogs are not specially controlled by section 1 of the Ac
According to a 'friend in the know, in Westminster' many police forces and local councils are looking at extending the list to include staffys, english bull terriers, boxers, samoas and the english bull mastiffs. those not registered and inspected by the police vet who looks at the dogs and says whether the are safe or not, will be automaticaly euthanised there and then, no right of appeal is given, if they fail the 'test' they are also immediately euthanised with no appeal. the government wants total control over all dogs soon, so it will only be a matter of time before all breeds have to be registered, and the dogs checked out once a year by the police veterinary collegate. for this service a charge of around £175 annually has been muted, which will obviously increase faster than inflation. there will also be a mandatory insurance policy requirement, that will pay for any third party claims made against the owners. Dog ownership is now being classed as anti-social and therefore, it will be ever more tightly policed. i believe it is a Governmentaly percieved danger, that all dogs, are able to savage the populate and a government being seen to be doing something to stem the tide of dog fighting and savage attacks, is a Government protecting it's electorate, big kudos there! and, in truth, what do you think you can do about it?, they listen to no one, and do as they please pass the cheque book please!!
yet KC reg staff have already been PTS in merseyside this week? NO DOG IS SAFE! IT WILL BE YOURS NEXT!
the irish has already been condemed in merseyside! the first breed club dog got labled as a pit bull type yesterday! mine is being assessed today or tommorrow!
I'm really sorry to hear your dog is going to be assessed, just remember if they do deem it to be type,DO NOT SIGN him over,if you do you will have signed his death warrant.
the madness of merseyside police can be displayed in this one story. a chap in st helens has had 4 ab puppies pts yet they left all the other pups from the same litter and the dam and sire? the mind boggles!!!!
Since when have the Police been experts The stories coming out of merseyside are just beyond belief. I just wish there was more we could do to help.
the police aren't there to provide support, they're there to get as much done with as less outgoings as possible. having you bring in your dog, signing it over and havng it murdered is an easy and safe option. This gets their crime rates sorted, gives the press something to talk about, and lets the public know they are in safe hands. it happily retards the pressure to go out and actualy catch the dangerous dog fighters, who will most certainly resist arrest, and of whom, they need to get an ironcast charge against that the C.P.S. won't chuck out at the first sitting. that costs money and needs resourcing, something they do not want to do, and in fact, don't need to. the press will see to it that they get nothing but praise for there work, in 'culling' the dangerous dogs all around them. those of us that know about dogs, will never be listened to, especialy by the press, telling them that the dogs are actually safe will not sell papers, and that's what they are there to do, good press, means good money rolling through the doors!! but then, when have the press and the police ever been worried about getting 'the wrong man'? .........................................................................................
5 minutes of detective work via the web, gave me......... Although statistics show that the numbers of attacks have decreased in the last year, the summer months are shown to be the time when most occur. "People leave their doors open because it is hot weather and the kids are out playing and so often the dogs can get out easily," said Mr Leach. Between 2003 and 2004, 620 people were attacked by animals in Wales alone. There was a total 5,868 dog attacks across the UK for the same period resulting in 5,770 days lost in sick leave. In 2004-2005, there was a total of 4,540 dog attacks in the UK with 199 of those taking place in south Wales. The Crown Prosecution Service is examining the case's to see if long prison sentencing is a viable deterent. The new Control order, tackles dog attacks. Plans to prevent dog attacks by introducing control orders across the UK have been put out to consultation. Owners could face a £1,000 fine if their animals attack other dogs, or are let off the lead in public places, or are allowed to foul streets. People would also be unable to walk more than three dogs at the same time. The proposals follow consultation with parish and town councils within the UK. A Rother District Council spokesman said: "It's only possible to control a dog when it is on a lead." Critics have dubbed them "asbos for dogs", with some areas refusing to take part in the ban if it is brought in. Jennifer Als, from Peasmarsh Parish Council, said the order would be extremely difficult to implement. "We have a parish where we have a vast number of footpaths which are crossing quite a lot of public land," she said. Leader of a District Council, Graham Gubby, said the orders would not be imposed on parishes who did not want them yet. But Bexhill resident Jackie Hamilton, who was attacked by two large Doberman dogs last year, said her injured leg was still badly scarred and something had to be done to prevent it from happening again. "You can't stitch dog wounds so I had to be cleaned up and patched up [by the hospital], and was off work for just under a week," she recalled. the statistics are there to see, and in black and white, so, guess we will be seeing a certian curtailment of dog activity sometime soon. which is a ******, as i have a jack russell a greyhound and two english bull terriers that i won't be able to walk at the same time, and as for letting them run around, i'd need to buy a plot of land that other people couldn't possibly enter, just to let them run, you've been warned. ........................................................................................
The best of luck for tomorrow, and like nissanmad has said do not sign anything.I cannot believe whats going on at the moment. How is an Irish Stafford Type????? This madness has to stop, the slaughter is against the wishes of all dog charities and the Kennel Club and still they didn't listen. It is just so,so sad.:smt022
absolute garbage stop scaremongering this is never gonna happen only truth would be there will also be a mandatory insurance policy requirement, that will pay for any third party claims made against the owners. which most responsible dog owners have anyway
well, yep, i can see why you'd want to think that, only problem is, it's gone out for consultation, not much mongering there then!
