Thats right and as you say very sad indeed. They are a lovely breed as well as looking lovely.I knew somebody who had a beautiful tan APBT about 15 years ago.He was a smashing dog and very well trained by my friends father.

This may sound silly but why are they banned. ?
inst it the same as the stigma we get as sbt owners. punish the deed not the breed.
all dogs are capiable of awful injuries from the smallest breed to the biggest.
    so why ?

Basically because they were being used as a tool of violence. It is just like you cant blame a gun for hurting people it is those who pull the trigger.

Yep same ol,same old. Blame the deed not the breed.Im afraid Thordell is spot on,Irresponsible idiots who kept untrained Pitts and basically let then do as they pleased, are to blame for the demise of this great breed. It is widely accepted that any untrained dog left to its own devices could become a "dangerous dog" but these powerhouses were thought to be an imminent danger to everyone.Which of course is utter poppycock.

Many ppl were (and still are  ) training them for fighting, and then all sorts of problems spiraled from this, fighting dogs getting loose, pet dogs been stolen for use as bait, not to mention all the dogs hurt in fights and abandoned if they didn't make the grade.

People would get pits for all the wrong reasons, and like any powerful breed, they need a lot of training, and total numpties would buy them to enhance their street cred, for 'X' amount of money, and think that was their job done.

It was decided that eliminating this breed from the country would help "control" all the problems assosiated with it.

What they didn't think about was that the "die hard" dogfighters would carry on breeding and fighting pits regardless to whether they were allowed or not, after all fighting hasn't been allowed since the dark ages and they were still doing this in abundance. And that the only ppl loosing out would be the normal loving dog owners, who loved pits for their loving family nature, and just wanted to give them a warm spot beside the fire. :(

We all know what still happens behind closed doors though.

Exactly Kel.Again we are talking about the idiots and lawbreakers. The dogs themselves arn't born nasty.

In North London we have a lot of APBTs around here. Unfortunately, as previously mentioned, they're all owned by hard (stupid) men wanting trophy dogs (d*cks on strings). Most of the ones we see out in public seem to be very obedient (I won't say well trained as I doubt the training methods are kind or "enlightened") and well socialised. Though, of course, we're not going to see the actual fighting dogs on the streets.

It's a terrible shame what has happened to this breed and the others on the DDA :(

Nice dogs ,shame they re banned in U.K.!Whilst growing up I never saw aviolent pit bull. They should've banned certain idiots from owning them not the dog!People still look at staffys as vicious dogs and I suppose the "Devil Dog Era "in the 80's and the media ,frightened people .Both are such loving and loyal breeds.

Please tell me your kidding?

Why would anything need to be added to "get" the colour blue in Staffords when the gene that produces the colour exists naturally in Staffords. Why would you need to add another breed into the mix when the colour is already present and becoming VERY common? All you would need to do is breed from two blue Staffords or two dogs that carry the blue gene.

You cant get a "Fake Stafford" they are either staffords or they are not lol
