Huskamute? Why? Controversial

Strange that no mention of any health testing is on their site, its a VERY important part of breeding dogs properly.

Puppy packs are free by the way as is insurance!

How did they manage to get official hip scores on the huskamutes? they are not a pure breed so they cannot be done by the BVA as far as I am aware and I will stand corrected on this.

I have actually come across many "huskmutes" and I just dont get it? the only reason I can think they are breeding dogs like this is to try and get a dog like the one in Wildboys (that film has a lot to answer for) larger build of a malamute, but with the posibility of getting it with Blue eyes which is not permissable in a malamute, reason for the cross MONEY plain and simple, there are a few that have turned out to be really nice dogs from what I have seen but the majority of them as mentioned look like badly bred malamutes or very bulky huskies.

I wonder if it is the name joins that annoy you more than the mixed blood dogs themselves, 'labradoodle' 'huskamute' after all many breeds were mixed bloods somewhere in their past. The Lancashire heeler was a corgi manchester terrier fusion, perhaps they would be labelled designer dogs if they were bred today... Manorgis, or corgchesters

I'm curious, what do you think of the Northern Inuit dog? Just another 'snow dog' wolfy crossbreed or better for being called Northern Innuit rather than Woluskamalepard

We are not judging your dog by any means, and NI's too have had a fair share of comments, its merely by those of us who are concerned that people who are less knowledgeable about dogs are being charged a fortune for like labradoodles, dogs that are simply cross breeds, I personally love huskamutes, but I wouldn't pay a fortune for one. When you pay for a pedigree its because you know its history and characteristics - you can also judge a lot of its temperament, you can't do the same with cross breeds in the same way.

For me, the biggest problem around "new breeds", "designer crosses" or whatever you might want to call them is that times have moved on.

Yes in the past people put existing breeds together to create new breeds, but in those days people didn't have the same concerns about animal welfare, and the crossbreeds which didn't "come up to the mark" in terms of the standard for the new breed, could easily be discarded/culled/abandoned with little or no thought.

Today, thank goodness, we think differently and to deliberately produce thousands of unwanted puppies while you are working to create a new breed which produces consistently for structure, type and temperament is, in my view, completely unacceptable in this day and age.

Rescues throughout the country are full of unwanted crossbreeds bred accidentally or deliberately by irresponsible people already, without deliberately creating more.

It takes many generations to create a new breed and to my mind it is an egotistical luxury that the dog world cannot afford. There are already enough breeds out there to satisfy almost any desires - creating new breeds is, to my mind not about dogs at all but all about ego!:-( :-(

Can I ask did you specifically go out to buy a huskamute? and if so what lured you to them, instead of getting either a mal or a sibe? as both of these breeds have long histories and their traites are wll known, what drew you to a dog that was mixed from both when there was the chance you could get all the bad traits from either breed in your pup, (yes you could also get all the good too) but there is a 50/50 chance either way as to what traits your dog would end up having. and I still didnt get the answer about the parents hips and how they got officially scored.
