Have ordered a K9 a new Julius -K9 harness in blue today from eBay for just £5, the advert said it was small size fit chest 50 to 60cm, K9 as 55cm chest it says the small size as a red secure buckle clip. Even if its only a copy it will be ok for K9 as his system alert harness no longer fit him, I will use the medic alert patches from his old harness & will put them on the new harness (probably will have to glue them on) will have to wait until middle of January for it to be delivered, as I had an email from seller asking if its ok to post after the New Year on 3rd January 2017. Hopefully it will fit K9 perfectly & not be to tight or to loose.
Photo's off sellers eBay page where I bought the harness from. Blue one I have bought Secure buckle Details
Gwylim wears the Julius K9 Power Harness size Mini which is a size larger than the S that you've bought He weighs 9 kg and is a square and stocky dog. Maybe the one you've bought is old stock rather than a copy? Looking at their catalogue they don't appear to call it size S any more, but Mini Mini and it doesn't have the red buckle either.
I think maybe a copy sold through eBay by AliExpress. I have three bought from eBay which were supposedly Julius K9 but were copies from AliExpress, none of which fitted Tikva even though the measurements according to their description and the measurements I took of Tikva should have been correct. They were ~$7 postage free. And the sizes were useless. AliExpress, in China, copy products and sell them either through their own website or through eBay. Sometimes you are lucky, sometimes you are not. I was not with the supposed Julius K9 from eBay even though they were advertised as Julius K9 so those harnesses are going to my vet when he comes here on Wednesday to give Tikva her Parkworm shot. However, the harnesses I bought from AliExpress, which did not pretend to be copies of anything, let alone Julius K9 were perfect. They are not copies of Julius K9 and the best harnesses I had ever found.
Maybe but if it is to small then Skye/Ziva/Zeus or Dottie will be able to wear it, it says Size ............Chest ................weight old/new S - M .........50-60cm ...........07-15kg M - 0 .........58-75cm ...........13 -24kg L - 1 .........65-85cm ...........22 -30kg Then it goes on to say for sizes 2- 3 -4 see my other listings in large dog harnesses As it was only £5 I am still going on the idea it might be a copy.
Do not worry about whether it is a copy or not as long as you can make use of it. And that that price you can really not lose. The copies that I have bought are well worth the money - just no good for Tikva - but first Michal [Tikki's original primary vet] and now Ram are only too grateful to give to their new clients. And at those prices I am only too happy to donate them. And as I say, the harnesses which I have found which are 100% perfect for Tikva I am more than happy with. You just have to learn which of eBay's products are actually from AliExpress, and it is then fairly easy to know whether they are copies or not, and worth spending the money or not.
I bought mine from Julius K9 UK which in retrospect was rather silly because they're made in Hungary and I could have ordered them direct to be delivered COD and saved a lot on the delivery charge! Gwylim's in a Mini size 51 - 67 cms to fit a dog weighing 7 - 15 kg Georgina's is a size 0 58 -76 cms to fit a dog weighing 13 - 25 kg (she's 17 kg) As Malka says it doesn't really matter if it is a copy as you'll be able to use it on one or other of the hooligans, which is something I can't do as there's too much difference in size between them.
Tikva is approximately 20 inches [50.75cm] round her chest [and the skinniest waist ever] at approx 6kg max in weight - if that. But I was never been able to get a correct size harness until the last ones. Two of them were imitation Julius K9, both of which were too large for the size given. The third one was the perfect size, four-way adjustable and the given sizes fitted perfectly, so when the first harness arrived and fitted so well I ordered another two. Oh did I spoil her - $7 for perfection? These were bought from AliExpress but eBay had exactly the same ones. For exactly the same price and when checking, from the exactly the same place.
K9 measurements are as followed chest 22in-55.8cm-558.8mm back 16in-40.64cm-406.4mm neck 14in - 35.56cm-355.6mm weight 11.75kg - 1 stone, 11/12lbs roughly
Considering that K9 weighs nearly twice as much as Tikva - his chest being only 22in more, you would think that he needs a harness twice the size - which is why once I found the perfect size/fit for Tikki, I have made sure I have a good supply of them. Well I only have three, in different colours... is that spoiling her? [No Malka - you are not going to look at AliExpress again.] Yet. Ooh but they have some lovely squishy squeaking toys that I know she will just lurve... ...she can never have enough soft squishy squeaking toys, can she.
1 I'd say the one you've bought should be OK for K9 because although Georgina's is only the next size up it's considerably larger and heavier and all the straps are much broader. If you look at the photo you posted of the harness you'll see the chest strap is a long strip of velcro which goes through a metal ring on one side of the back piece and loops back on itself (if that makes sense) allowing you to adjust the chest size to suit the dog. To make it fit comfortably I actually had to cut about an inch off Gwylim's strap because it was far too long. The girth strap can also be adjusted to fit a dog larger or smaller than Gwylim. The one thing you can't adjust is the back piece which should fit snuggly on the dog's back and not move when the dog walks. You then adjust the other straps accordingly. I'm very happy with mine and the dogs are obviously happy with them too.. .
Well K9's harness turned up today & am not sure if I should get him the next size up, What do you think ? would the next size up be better fit for K9
That looks the right size for him. This is Gwylim in his which is the same size as you bought for K9 And this is Georgina in hers which is the next size up and as you can see is considerably larger than Gwylim's
Yes looking at HRH Georgina's harness I think K9's will be ok I will buy a chestpad to go on his harness
If K9 is comfortable and the harness does not look too tight or rub anywhere, it seems fine, and a chest plate will make it more comfortable. He is not like my mini monster who wears her harness 24/7 which is why I am so fussy about hers. K9 is also a nice solid dog, not a horrid skinnykins, but the chest plate on her harness makes it perfect for her. A harness just a bit small is as bad as one a bit too large. K9 looked comfortable so as long he is happy let him wear it with love.
Georgina and Gwylim have the Y strap fitted to theirs which stops the harness from moving and prevents them from backing out of them.
I think it personally looks a bit to tight. You can see the strap underneath is digging into his flesh a bit. I'm sure that would be uncomfortable over extended use.
It could just be that the girth strap has been done up too tight - but adding a chest plate could make it even tighter if it is too small to start. It also depends on how long K9 will be wearing the harness whether it starts to get uncomfortable or not. It is not very easy checking by just looking at photographs because even though the size is correct according to the measurements and the harness looks perfect on the dog, the few centimetres either side can make all the difference. between a perfectly fitting harness that can be worn all day, and one that starts to rub after a few hours.
