How much training do you put in?

Friend sent me one of those links where dogs hate bathes, and comment I must have fun.

Sent him back a vid of Mouse at bath time.

How is it at your house at bath time?

My boy hates any water, I will have to put a lead on him or carry him to the bathroom and lift him into the bath, but once he is in he will stand still and let me wash him without a fuss and no attempts to jump out lol.

Here's Nigredo. Getting into an empty tub is one thing, enduring a bath is another! Jade will get in an empty tub, but there's no way she's staying in one full of water. She is rarely bathed, and when she is, she must be muzzled and taken OUTSIDE well restrained for a bath.

I am particular about how fatso looks and he gets long "soak" baths in black tea, or sage, etc. He does endure it very well and I'm quite glad!

The water is brown because that's the black tea "steeping" and also mixing with his filth. May I add that Nigredo HATES the warm water but does a fine job of sitting tight.

    Another good boy.
My two tolerate baths rather than enjoying them. They need to be plonked in, but don't actually object. I have to keep a hand firmly in place to stop them shaking and showering me and the tiles though.

He's lazy about actually getting in, but goes on in. Not TOO much shaking and no trying to jump out. Thank goodness because he's always in my bed and he can't be super stinky and sheddy.

Mouse is a bit of a queen of the tub. Before wifes stroke he would jump in with her, if she left the door open.

In the tub he knows stand, sit , rotate, which he changes sides toward me.

Would have to have the wife video, but he expects to be blow dried after a bath.

    I'm lazy!

Anika, Gwylim's groomer always bathes my two and clips their nails as well. Costs me £13.50 for the pair of them including having Gwylim's coat stripped and takes 3 hours which allows me plenty of time to do my shopping without having to worry about leaving them in the car or at home!

Not having a bath tub [or an outside tap] meant that Pereg's "baths" were either under the shower and hoping she would stay still, although baby wipes were great at cleaning her, especially after an episode.

Tiddler Tikva could probably be bathed in the sink - but even 6 kilos is too much for me to lift up to put her in - and something tells me she would leap out all over me if I tried. The shower was not a success either. But I now have some large special dog wipes and she usually lets me wipe her down.

If she is in a well behaved mood, that is, otherwise she treats it as a game and everything to her is a game. She is not a very well-trained dog as she is too stubborn but she is not badly behaved, has a wonderful re-call, and is a very happy little devil.

@Pork1epe1 I'm getting quite jealous of your animal care charges in Hungary.

Local vet, (not my vet) grooming price list popped in our mailbox recently:-
Min. Schnauzer, from £25. Wash and go, all breeds £10. Hand stripping, please enquire, - but only seems to be for Border Terriers.
Ones I thought particularly expensive were, Rough Collie, from £40, Dachshund and JRT, from £20, and Pomeranian from £25.

My older two just tolerate it, and I can easily lift them in/out. Cash OTOH, does not like the bath tub! He has to be bathed outside which is a bit of a pain, but whatever works :D

Not that any of them get baths all that much so thankfully not something that is a huge concern.

I know! Groomer's and vet fees are ridiculously cheap compared to the UK. When Georgina had a UTI recently the charge for Xrays, Ultrasound and the urine analysis which had to be sent to an outside lab came to £39 and the follow up consultation with the vet was free.

To have Georgina bathed and her nails clipped costs £4, so when it's only Gwylim that needs grooming I only pay £9.50. Can't be bad!

They charge $16 for a nail dremel. He freaks out with clippers now. They will charge about $65 for a proper bath and whatnot for a 100 lb medium coated fatso. Too much pocket ouchy since I like to bathe him pretty often.

    Example...

He sometimes doesn't want to step in and he's 100 lbs so sometimes it's easier to just "encourage" him. YES he's fat and he doesn't need junk food, but aside from bath time (not EVERY bath time) he doesn't get them.

EDIT: Just heard myself say a** in the first video. Apologies! He can be stubborn getting in sometimes and it's just a force of habit!
