Can akita puppy have beef knuckle from Walmart I know they have sensitive smotachs so I kinda watch what I let him eat only supplying for him cause of teething stage for something to chew on its says it's 100 percent beef I don't think it has any rawhide
Last year, Eddie split one of his carnassial teeth along it's length on one of these knuckle bones, - and he does have very large, strong teeth. I had never used cooked bones, but Merry's breeders had sent a huge one with her, so I thought it would be OK to get one for him too. The result was two dental op's - one to remove his broken tooth, which was so strongly rooted that it took an hour to get out, and the vet was seriously concerned about the possibility of breaking his jaw. He then needed a further op. to remove a shard of alveolar bone which was preventing the gum from healing. Thousands of dogs must have these bones without any ill effect, but for us is now smelly hooves and ears only when they have a big chew.
Nigredo sometimes cuts his gums on these. I give to him for a little while but after a while I take it. Causes no stomach upset.
Agreed I stay away from cooked or Smoked bones. (Smoked is also a form of cooking) Smoked splinters worse then normally cooking. Mouse loves them but has a extremely hard bite and there is nothing I've found he can not crush pretty easy bone wise.
Thanks everyone for replying I'm thinking I'll choose not to give it to him I'll stick with the red non rawhide bones
I used to buy a breast of lamb and split it in half, they had it a couple of times a week; it has a small soft bone in it, the meaty part is quite tough and is good for chewing without damaging teeth. It’s a bit greasy so either give outside/tiled room or put a big sheet down.
OK and on different topic so I don't have to post another thread lol but is it normal for akita to be shy or aloof of quests in the house cause mine would stay by me and stay away from the guests not overly scared but just not to certain he's fine and accepting of people outside of the house though
Yes it’s normal, they are not shy just reserved, mine were never close or loving with outsiders and chose to ignore them.
