When to switch to adult food

When did some of you guys switch to adult food for your akita I'm just curious and is it harmful to switch to early BTW I'll be feeding blue wilderness the same as I'm feeding now if that makes a difference

Never owned Akita but have always moved from puppy food to junior food then onto adult food. My small dogs were 12 months old when they moved onto junior food & they moved onto adult food when they were 24 months old.
My large breeds GSD's Doberman's Rottweiler's were 9 months old when they moved onto junior food & they moved onto adult food when they were 18 months old.

There is no definitive answer, but I never fed my dogs puppy food, including my Akita's, as i don't want to encourage fast growth and the problems associated with it .

I don't have an Akita but certainly with Shar-Pei which is a fast growing breed you're always advised to feed adult food not puppy food.

I've always been lead to believe puppy food isn't necessary for them, especially large breed dogs.

We also didn't feed Miko puppy food once she transitioned to discourage fast growth. Just seen Oakley in another thread he is a hansome boy!

I'm starting to mix adult food in to help transition over, over the next couple weeks . And thanks he is awesome and very sweet loves everyone but is unsure of new people also very confident he's going to be a amazing dog but he is hard headed when were out and about only decides to listen at home lol were working on that now

Lol that's Akita's for you, We were a little worried about how Miko was with new people (she was very cautious) but the trainer said its normal with Akita's and better to have a dog that's cautious with strangers instead of running off with anyone! I know they have a high prey drive and I'll only let her off the lead when we're well away from roads but I have found walking the opposite way soon gets her attention lol. Funny things aren't they

Nigredo has a ferocious bark, but he's a sweet man. Then, he's a Labrador and not an Akita. But he WAS banned from a therapy program because he was deemed "an Akita or any mix thereof" and they don't allow those breeds. He doesn't even have any Akita in him?

They saw a large black dog with a curly tail and assumed AKITA. He's not an Akita nor does he have the temperament of one. Unfair.

I let him off the leash at the dog park all the time he loves it but he doesn't like all the dogs the dogs he doesn't seem to care for he ignores others he will play and get excited with and he loves small dogs he's just so playful with them I don't think he realizes how big he is yet but cause of the high prey drive I keep a very good eye on the play time with the little dogs
