Hi! Hope everyone is well.. I was just wondering what everyone recommends feeding large breeds? Mikos on adult food after her trainer advised us to take her off puppy food (she's nearly 8months) and she's growing well. However she's a right fuss pot and will sometimes leave her dry food unless it's mixed with fish, meat, rice or eggs etc. Looking for a good dry food which dogs seem to love lol. We feed her twice a day but she'll sometimes leave her evening meal..I've heard Akitas sometimes fast and she certainly doesn't look starved. Thanks in advance
I feed my borzoi - and the others - wet and dry (sometimes a meal of each, sometimes mixed together) He has (dry): Wainwrights grain free, Purizon, Wolf of Wilderness, Lily's Kitchen, Legacy, Millie's Wolfheart, Wellness Core and Barking Heads, Carnilove (Wet): Wolf of Wilderness, Millie's Wolfheart, Carnilove, Lily's Kitchen, Lukullus, Rocco, Animonda, Evolution, Fishmongers, Wainwrights, Arden Grange, Hermanns Organic and Terra Canis
Another Wainwright's grain free fan here, (Pets at Home). Though Beagles are not a large breed, Eddie has had three years of serious bowel problems, and of all the foods we have test fed, Wainwright's grain free has proved the most successful. I do add a little stewed veg. (mainly carrot, cabbage, butternut squash), and a garnish of wet tray food - Fishmongers, Evenlode, Wainwright's, Nature Diet, - or their latest favourite, Naturo salmon or lamb varieties which come from Tesco. There is some rice in these products, but the quality is excellent, and my two love them.
What suits some dogs may not suit others, so it’s a bit of trial and error just look a good quality feed within your budget, and see how it goes.
A lot of people have reccommended wainwrights, is it expensive? I think we may have spoilt her by giving her top ups of salmon and meat lol
Its not one of the cheaper brands. £43.99 for 15kg, but there are offers on it pretty much every other month, and if you have a VIP card you get more discounts/vouchers too
The one I get appears to work out dearer than that at £38.99 for 10kilos, (duck and veg, and lamb and veg varieties, and turkey for seniors), but as Erin says it is worth joining the loyalty scheme. There are frequent offers and downloadable vouchers - I usually get anything from 10 - 30% off. I also like the fact that I can nominate Beagle Welfare to receive their charitable support!
