Hi everyone, we have a 2 year old male dogue de bordeaux. Whenever he sees a male apart from my husband he runs for dear life. If they go outside he will pace up and down with his tail in between his legs. How do we fix this problem? Has anyone else had this problem?
Has he always done this or is it a comparatively new thing? And have you had him since he was a puppy? Oh, and welcome to Breedia from Malka and little Tikva.
Hi and thankyou for the welcome. We got him when he was 16 weeks old. And has been like this since. He is fine with my husband
Welcome from Tina & my 6 JRT's Do you have any other males in your family [brothers/uncles/nephews/dads] if so then ask them to walk your dog for you [either with you or your hubby not on their own] it don't need to be long walk just round the block, give them either treats or toy [depending on which you use for training] why they are walking your dog this will let your dog know that men can be trusted.
Yes this is a issue that can be fixed over time, with proper positive training, it will take time and should have been a higher priority when the pup was much younger. DDB's are powerhouses so take it slow and don't try any quick fixes.
What kind of socialisation has the dog had? It is crucial that a large bull breed such as the DDB is socialised extensively from an early age. This article is worth a read: Desensitizing shy or nervous dogs
