Just ordered another harness/coat for my dogs

Was browsing on eBay for new tyres for my mobility scooter when I came across these harness/coats, they are idea for my 6 dogs plus brother's GSD [Kula has been confirmed as shepherd mix by vets after a DNA test] so just at to buy them one each {darn't add up how much I have now spent on Christmas presents for the dogs} I have ordered 3 blues & 3 pinks ones for my 6 & a yellow one for Kula (prices start at £3 going up to £11.99)

Those look warm and practical. You will have to get a padded jacket to match.

I have ordered a small brass hunting horn - probably not at all practical.
(Eddie is whistle trained, but I don't know what he will make of this!)
Also, a bottle of aniseed oil for training Merry for next years hound scenting tests.

I have ordered one for Tikva from AliExpress. Exactly the same as those from eBay, price $5.39 - $6.44 [£3.61 - £4.31].

They are from the same supplier as those from eBay but the difference is that they are postage-free. Registered postage as that.

When I checked on eBay UK the coats were £7.99 and the postage to Israel was £16.42 - I have not checked on eBay US because there was no point when I could get the identical coat/harness from AliExpress.

What happens is that some commercial sellers on eBay UK or US buy in bulk from China [AliExpress gives good discounts on bulk orders and if they want an even larger bulk order they buy from AliBaba], and then sell them for a heck of a lot more. It is quite easy to check as many of the pictures on eBay are identical to those from AliExpress.

Some sellers will remove the Chinese label if there is no label in English and put their own on, but they are the same items.

I got well and truly caught buying something from eBay when the identical article was a fraction of the price, with no postage charge. And it is not just eBay that does it.

I have just been looking for some cotton jersey pj's for mini monster as her crate is in my bedroom which is
    [IMG]
but as she now tends to pee in her crate I would need enough pairs to rinse out and dry every day.

Why have I got a 7 month-old puppy who will eep to get me up so I can let her go out and into the salon for a poo, but will now pee in her crate, puppy pads, towels, uncle Tom Cobley an' all, oh uncle Tobley an' all,

I do not even know if she is cold at night, but during the day she buries herself in the couch blanket when she wants to sleep and will stay out for ages on her tether now as it is quite warm outside - as long as I do not mind being bitten while I clip her on. She will then zonk off for hours when she comes in, buried in the blanket

Do you think it could be because puppy pads are impregnated with chemicals which encourage them to, 'Piddle Here'?

I do not think it is that, Carole, as until recently she was dry [and clean] in her crate. She had to "go" on the pads in the salon [I have two down] for ages as she could not go out [too many un-vaccinated stray dogs who can get into the front yard] until she had had her puppy shots, then rabies shot, then she would have been shoulder deep in mud due to the rain - and then she was spayed so no going out until her staples were out but I have now actually seen her poo outside. Pee? No way...

Anyhow, whatever she has in her crate at night now seems to her that she can pee on. Even if I do not put a puppy pad down but just an old towel. She will not poo in her crate though. Wakes me up to let her out so she can rush in to the salon to do it on a puppy pad.

I am just worried that she will be too cold at night as I am not used to such a skinny, ultra short-coated dog.

Apologies to Tina for going off topic

No need to apologize Malka xx

Have been looking through some of my dog forums I go on, there's a member in one of them that breeds short coat Dachshunds, have asked how they house-trained their puppies/dogs, they replied that Dachshunds are hard to house train, said they can go 6-9 months at being totally house trained over night, then suddenly they start weeing again over night & this can go on until they are 3 or more years old.

Just what I needed to know. SIGH - do not forget that she is a cross-breed - Daxie and Minpin, both of which are difficult to house train. This THING is also difficult when I try to clip a harness on, or unclip it - this THING has ginormous teeth, a very strong jaw, and BITES.

Not puppy nips either, but big teeth bites. Feet, hands, and noses if they can get to them.

Tina, THING is 7 months old - I will shoot myself it if I have just gotten her house trained and then have another two or three years to start again.

Umm - any idea when they stop biting?

Nope she might be one of those dogs that bites the hand/feet/nose that feeds them

I know this might be difficult to try but putting Tikva on her back & keeping her down could help her to stop bitting - we do it to some of the older pups that are out of control at The Rescue Home - we don't put presure on them just put our hands down so they are just touching the dogs, it calms a lot of the dogs down, if only for a minute they soon learn that unruly behavior is not acceptable.

@Malka You may not like this method as it does involve bribery, but dogs do like wages, and it is how I begin training puppies, (or new dogs), to learn to focus on a hand target.

Start with ten pieces of puppy kibble, or cat treats. Offer your flat palm to the puppy, and reward at first any attempt to nose touch with a short, 'Yes', and give a reward from your treat stock. Keep repeating this, and the puppy should soon recognise that this game of bumping your hand results in a. You being pleased, (the Yes! is the signifier), and, b. Some new yummy tastes. Any biting marks the end of the game, cry, 'Ouch', remove the treats, and turn your back on the dog for a short 'time out'. Otherwise the game session ends when the ten treats have been used up. Make this game a daily routine.
I find that my dogs become really keen to play nose bump with the hand, and we then turn this game into Tennis, which is when they have to bump your left and right hands alternately to earn the Yes! and treat. Hopefully, by this time, the hand will be no longer seen as a target for biting, but has become a means of earning treats, and a target which can be used for further training. Usually recommended to be done with a clicker box, this method is called clicker training, (lots of info on the net), but the short, sharp Yes! works almost as well, and doesn't need three hands!
Once you have trained a reliable hand target, this can be useful for guiding the dog into any position, and can also be used as the basis for teaching heelwork.

Tina, until she was about three months old she would come to me as soon as I called her. Now? It can take up to half an hour before I can get hold of her to even try to put her on her back. She races round me, round and round and round, and once I have managed to get hold of her [which is why she always wears a harness] she will twist around to get loose - if she does not manage then she BITES. And I do mean bite. Hard. She might only weigh 6 kilos but she is far stronger than I am.

Touch her? My hand goes near her and she BITES and then rushes away.

Bribery does not work with her. Been there, done that, and it does not work now. This puppy BITES. It is grab, snatch, bite and run.

Yesterday I had one of her large canine teeth go through to the bone of the lower joint of my right index finger. Why? Because I was trying to bribe her to come [and stay long enough] so I could clip her harness on as she had asked to go out. Not to do anything, just to go out. And she wanted the treat and when I tried to clip her on she bit me. Hard.

This is not puppy nipping - she has all her adult teeth now - this is deliberate biting.

And yet she is wonderful with everyone else. She is fantastic with children, even toddlers. But me?

I love her so much but I am frightened of her now.

have you tried putting the lead/tether back down and totally ignoring her when she shows signs of 'the dance around'? Pick up again and keep repeating until she tires of the game.

Same with the biting, move off away from her or, should that not be possible, sit very still not looking at her

Rosie was a bitey pup, but she very quickly realised it was more fun not to bite as she got her way more often by not doing so

@Chris B - the problem is that if I am on my crutches I have to be very careful and slow - and in my electric chair I have to be even slower in case Tikva is underneath, even though she knows if I am moving.

Two weeks ago she cost me 1,000 shekels because she chewed through the wiring of one of the lights, while I was on my chair and it was not moving. New lights plus techie call-out charge as there was no way I could get my chair to their place. So even if I am sitting still she will be "at it" if she is in the mood and thinks I do not know what she is doing..

The problem with keeping a leash on her is that she will still do the roundy roundy dance, which will, if I am on my crutches, end up with me on the ground. And if I am on my chair the leash will get caught round my wheels. Plus I have to catch her to clip a leash on her in the first place.

    But...

Rafaël has just been over with Shulamit's Shabbat offering and he had about half a dozen of his grandchildren with him, ranging from ~ 2½ to 6½., all yelling Tikva, Tikva, Tikva - grabbing her and hugging her and she was absolutely wonderful with them.

I know she will not harm the children or else I would not let her near them. And Rafi watches them very carefully. She is not even on her tether - I just open the door and there is a bundle of youngsters all over Tikva, squealing and squeaking and she does not even try to get away. Just enjoys the fuss. Not that they hurt her but they do get very excited to see her.

She has only seen them by two's before - this was the first time that there were so many and oh were they noisy! Did she care? Nah, just waited for another cuddle!

If she is like this with little'uns I can only hope that she grow out of the biting me stage. But I will NOT give up on her. Because I love her.
