I did read that there is no such thing as a pure JRT that is solid black & tan like that. Maybe it did come from cross breeding? I don't really know. Some times there are obscure things in a gene pool too? I'm not an expert on the small terriers so I'm unsure what to think.
Am now in loooooove been to see Yankee Doodle Dandy IX plus the other puppies, Willow at the moment is a true chocolate coloured puppy, the other female puppies have all been registered with the KC but not Willow, they all have their mum's pedigree bloodline name plus Yankee from fathers (K9) bloodline name, so they are now Yankee Mistletoe Rulers (think that's what breeder said) plus with the rank number along. Didn't get to hold Willow or K9 junior as mum was very protected of her puppies & was growling as soon as I went near her & pups, only saw them from doorway & when breeder picked up K9 junior & Willow to show me, mama ran growling towards me so breeder at to put them back down again, breeder told me to go again in 3/4 weeks time when pups eyes are open, as mama will not be so protective & I be able to hold K9 junior & Willow. Not sure wether to have the final stud money (from K9's sperm) or to have Willow - have to think about The Evil One (Dottie) plus Kula as its bad enough trying to keep them 2 away from each other at the w/end.
JRT's have been on the KC breeding programme for years, they have a strict breeding spec which states mating pair must be 70% white, must not be pud or mini & not from working stock, plus about another 20 odd rules that must be complied with, one of the rules is must be an BIB Champion
This is the part I don't get either. I'm not disbelieving you Tina, so hope you don't feel I keep questioning what you're saying, but I'm genuinely confused lol. Do you mean they are registered on the activity register? As a non KC recognized breed they simply can't be registered in the same sense a Lab is for example, unless I'm missing something glaringly obvious? However, ANY breed/crossbreed can be registered on the activity register. As far as I can make out from what you've said here, they can be shown to champion level for fun only through their own breed club? and maybe you mean the club has an online database of registered JRT's/pedigrees etc? Pics please btw!
http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/our...tements/jack-russell-parson-russell-terrier/ Are you getting confused with the http://www.jrtcgb.co.uk/ which is independent from the KC. From their standard QUOTE) White should predominate (i.e., must be more than 51% white) with tan, black, or brown markings. Brindle markings are unacceptable.
I agree, this is a confusing situation as short legged JRT's have won big awards abroad - see JRT thread regarding a short legged JRT going BIS in Italy. These seem to have gained FCI recognition through their place on the Australian KC register, yet we, presumably country of origin, only allow the Parson Russell Terrier to be KC registered. The Foxhound, and I think also the Otterhound, gained their KC recognition based on hunt pack records, so presumably if the American or Australian KC's have maintained full records, there would be nothing to stop the Shorties applying to go on the (Import or Development?) register, so long as there was sufficient desire within their breed. club. It could be, as Tina has suggested previously, that there is a faction within the JRT Club which prefers to see them as working terrier. Sorry if I'm off beam, but this is the way it appears to me.
The Jack Russell Club of Great Britain vehemently opposes KC registration and, successfully prevented a previous attempt at a steal by the Kennel Club. On that occasion, the KC went ahead - but was forced to call its new breed the Parson Russell Terrier, leaving a large population of Jack Russells outside of the grasp of the Kennel Club. In the US, meanwhile, the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America has successfully prevented the American Kennel Club from taking the breed under its dubious stewardship there, saying: "Recognition, it is believed, will be detrimental to the preservation of the Jack Russell as the sound, intelligent strain of working terrier it has been for more than 100 years. The AKC was forced to call the breed they adopted just the Russell Terrier. There is a petition going to stop the KC from recognising the JR.
I have had a Google and found this KC press release, dated 15.10.2015. www.thekennelclub.org.UK/press-releases/2015/october/meet-britains-surprising-new-pedigree-dog-breed Hope this works, I'm not good with links. I think this answers a lot of queries.
i`m even more confused now, you said your breed was originally from the US, with a pure line of JRT, , hence using K9 sperm to continue their lines, yet you say there is a chocolate coloured pup in the litter, which is not possible unless you have crossed bred somewhere in the lines for this rogue gene to come out. So how can your breeder be ethical and only produce KC (US) breed type dogs if he is popping out undesirable /impossible colors for said breed.
Black and tan, or chocolate is not a colour "recognized anywhere in the world, the only way you will get these colours is if its a crossbreed. or has crossbreed parents
o There is still a long way to go before the JRT will be able to compete in championship shows,, first they will have to adhere to standard, numbers registered , judges will have to attend seminars to pass evaluations on breed standard, it will take time for them to gain CC`s, which enables them to compete at Crufts or gain titles.
@Jackie that is the reason why the breeder as not registered the chocolate pup, the reason the KC as started registering JRT's is to stop the black/tan chocolate coloured JRT's, as in 2000 for every 50 pups born one was either black/tan or chocolate, breeding out the black/tan & chocolate gene from the JRT is what the KC selective breeding is doing, unfortunately every now & then a chocolate or black/tan pup will be born, but its now far less then what it was in 2010, think the last figure we had at the JRT AGM was 1 in every 300 pups.

@Malka Does this mean that I have to have two windows open to post a link, ie. the source and the destination? I have some gaping holes in my PC knowledge ....
