I had planned on going to the Pension today to get a few things from the store - the most important being puppy pee pads, and the biscuits that the devil rushes into her night cage for when it is bedtime [she only has half of one and they are left-over ones from Pereg that I found in a cupboard], plus a few other things. I would not have taken her as she would cause havoc - I have the carrying bag for use in the taxi but once there she would be on a leash - and she she still will not walk on the leash. She is the most stubborn puppy I have ever come across. Anyhow I could not go as I have a flare-up of arthritic gout so cannot walk even on my crutches, and as the car park there is all pebbles it would be impossible to get into the store in my chair. Usually I manage the few metres using my crutches but today it would be impossible as my foot is so painful. I also cannot get a shoe or sandal on as it is so swollen. However - they deliver so I telephoned and they will deliver my order tomorrow. PHEW!
Naughty little Tikva not wanting to go walkies. Bet your glad they can deliver your goods to you Malka xx
The order was delivered shortly after I posted! Not only do they not charge for delivery but it also saved me the cost of taxi fares there and back. And there is always a small gift, whether I go there or, as today, was in the bag. I think that I might make use of their delivery service again next time I need something!
I really doubt it - Israel to Lincolnshire is rather a long way! The gift is only a little thing - sometimes a small pack of dehydrated chicken strips. Yesterday's was a small [150g] foil container of junior dog food - like Cesar dog food trays. The devil is raw fed but this will come in handy for her light supper - she has a chicken neck for breakfast, raw meat and vegetables for a late lunch, and then a light supper. She really does not eat much but she has grown and is quite heavy now, and too wriggly for me to weigh. I want to take her to the vet to have her weighed properly, also her claws need cutting and no way can I do them now.
Shame. I shall have to go to the shops myself. But first I need someone to tell me what I have done with my shopping list wot I went to the trouble of writing and has now disappeared. And what is particularly annoying is that it's not on a scrap of paper, it is still attached to the notebook. Even though she's raw fed I'm sure it's handy to have a few convenience type items in stock for emergencies. As for nail cutting - I'm steeling myself up to tackle Chico! Pepe and Bogie both have theirs done when they are clipped. Once I got the groomer to do Witty who just couldn't bear to have his feet touched. One groomer had tried and failed, but this girl was able to do it with the help of her mother holding him and distracting him with treats while she crept up behind and took him unawares!
Janet what you need are 3 men & big bells in every room to summon your men with, then let them go shopping (accidentally on purpose forgetting to give them any money) they might not bring back what was on your list, but at least you be able to taste some strange named food.
The only time I asked my husband to go to the shops for me was one Christmas - I'd done the lot - food, presents, cards - but ran out of wrapping paper, So off he went, and came back with 'Congratulations on your Anniversary' wrapping paper. So will never trust him to get anything again!
Claw clipping problem solved - Michal will call in before she goes to the surgery tomorrow. The devil not only stands on her hind legs when she is in attack mode, hence the gouges out of my forearms, but her claws catch on my clothes. I did warn Michal that the devil bites when she gets excited but if I have her "sweeties" at the ready, maybe she will behave. I can but hope...
Malka dogs always make their owners look like liers, I bet little Tikva will be as good as gold tomorrow xx
First I have to catch her which is easier said than done, even though she is confined to the salon now, as I put the gate thingy that I used to block off my bedroom during the day across the salon doorway [I got fed up with her trying to pull my nickies down when I was on the loo].... then clip her onto the leash which is round the handle of my chair... loop the leash round the "pusher" so she cannot make a mad dash to welcome anyone coming in and reach them... and that is before I open the door! Anyhow, Michal telephoned just before she was closing up the surgery to confirm that she will be here just before 9am so I asked her to please bring a soft muzzle - just in case. Tikva really can be a devil and if she is like this at not yet five months old, I dread to think what she will be like when she is older.
You were right and I was wrong. Tikki was very excited to see Michal, jumping all over her, but after Michal making a fuss of her and playing with her with some of her toys, she then sat between us on the couch [I had the "sweetie jar" just in case...] while Michal not only clipped all her claws but also filed the rough edges after they were clipped. And no soft muzzle needed. She has also been weighed. I weighed myself to check the scales were working, then Michal weighed herself - picked up Tikki - deducted her own weight from the one that showed when she was holding Tikki... ...who weighs GULP 5.3kg - what happened to that tiny 3 week-old puppy I brought home on 2 June? She is still a week off five months. Anyhow, she had a good check over and was given a clean bill of health. Michal worked out how much Frontline Plus she would need [I had three unopened packs for large dogs, ie from 20-40kg as Pereg was over 20kg - after the terrible time when she wore the Seresto collar Bayer not only refunded the cost of it but sent me four packs x 3 of Frontline Plus] although she forgot to leave me a syringe and needle so I could draw the correct amount out. She also left another Drontal Plus worming pill, so it was a very successful home visit, and at the equivalent of £49 I am not arguing. Especially as once again I saved the taxi fares! The best thing? Michal said that if I ever need a dog sitter she would be only too happy to look after Tikva!
Just like children! When I was little and in the hospital where my mother nursed, I was as good as gold when the other nurses gave me injections, but screamed the place down when it was my poor mother's turn!
What super vets you have, Malka. It is lovely to hear of a vet that will make a non emergency home visit, and can spare the time to become a puppy's friend. 5.3 kilo's? Perhaps there's not as much Min Pin there as we thought!
See dogs always make owners out as liars I been made out a liar by my 6 doggies with the mobile dog washer, they stand/sit there all quiet & calm when being washed/dried by them, but if I try to wash them I have a fight on my hands, just trying to keep them in the bath.
Having seen the size of her standard Daxie dam, who was absolutely enormous, well over the standard size, I am not surprised that Tikva is the size and weight she is now. She has grown - a lot - but Michal reckons that if she is this size and weight at her age she does not think that she will grow or gain that much more. She is beautifully slim, has a definite waist and a perfect tuck. Does not eat much, or rather I limit the amount she eats and she only has three meals a day, plus half a normal size biscuit or one very small one after she has rushed into her night crate when it is bedtime, and the "sweeties" are about the size of the nail on my little finger. She is also exceedingly active, and having longer legs and a shorter back than a full Daxie I should not have to worry about the jumping she does. Mind you, if you could see her when I am getting her non-bone meals ready - she stands on her hind legs twirling, then does a Zebedee act with all four legs off the floor, doing a twirl as well! I am indeed very lucky with my vets. Michal is fairly new although she did see Pereg - turned out to be the last time I took Pereg to the surgery before Ram came round to euthanise her. She is quite young and has been here twice before, to give Tikki her first puppy shot, then she came again for the second one. But Tikki was very young then so nowhere near as exuberant as she is now. As for Ram, who has yet to have the "pleasure" of meeting the devil - he used to come round every year to give Little One her yearly boosters, and then Pereg [until she developed epilepsy so I had to take her to the surgery for regular blood tests]. I used to take LO when I could still wear my leg braces, putting her on my manual chair to push her to and from the taxi, and he could see how difficult it was. So he suggested coming round here for the shots. And of course the call-out charge is only a fraction more than the taxi fares, and it is so much easier for me and less stress for the dogs.
"The best thing? Michal said that if I ever need a dog sitter she would be only too happy to look after Tikva!" This must be such a relief for you, Malka. Knowing you have someone on hand to help out in an emergency is wonderful
