After today's walk, I fed the dogs, and we started to make sandwiches for our own lunch. I noticed that Merry was missing - which is very unusual when there is any food about ........ Chas shot out to the garage - the door of which he had left open - to discover her licking out the container which he had filled with 25 Schmako type chews (225 grams!), and then left on the bench without putting the top on! To say that things are a little smelly round here this afternoon would be an understatement. I'm watching like a hawk, as there could well be eruptions later.
Oh dear! I hope what comes out isn't too bad! Last week I had someone doing some work in the house - Pepe and Chico were in the back room with my husband when he arrived, so I shut them in there.Bogie happened to be in the hall with me,so I bundled him in the front room. What I'd overlooked was that I'd taken delivery that morning of Naturediet dog food. By the time I'd let him out, he'd chewed through the outer cardboard box, chewed through several of the inner cardboard boxes, and ripped open and eaten several of the packs of food.. No ill effects at all. Except to my bank balance. Still, at least you only had chews in your garage. My friend's cocker spaniel got into their garage and ate a bucketful of live maggots.
Not knowing what Shmako type chews are, I dread to think what they will have done to Merry's tummy! Was the total weight of the chews 225g or did each one weight that? I sincerely hope that was the total weight or she might explode! I hope she will be OK. At least Bogie had more sense than your friend's spaniel - live maggots - still, it's all protein...
@Malka No. 25 chews totalling 225 gms. It is a kind of dried meat product. She does look fat though, and I'm having to ration her water. @6JRT's No sick - Beagles don't believe in parting with much once it's gone into the mouth. It's the other end I'm worried about! @Janet. Your friend's Cocker is disgusting! - I wonder if they tickled going down? We try to be so careful in selecting the right food for them, and time and again they thwart us!
@GsdSlave She has been robustly well, thank you. One large sloppy shovelfull, followed by one large not so sloppy shovelfull (I know, - too much information), and she is now completely back to normal. Thank goodness for Beagle digestive powers. BTW - How is Heiko getting on with his problems?
Kyra wasn’t too bad but I have to be careful what I give to Heiko as he has a very sensitive tummy. Heiko’s doing fine thanks he is such a sloppy sensitive boy and the first couple of weeks of putting his eye drops in was ‘Hit & Miss’ he fidgeted / protested and kept moving, drops going everywhere but his eyes, so I decided on bribery got a tit- bit and put it on table made him sit in front of it, well it worked for a while as he was focused on titbit but he’s got fly, somehow he knows when I get the drops which I keep in kitchen (he’s in living room) and he peeks round kitchen door then runs off barking in protest to his ‘dad’ the lure of the tit bit still works, though he does make me feel guilty . The vet asked me to keep diary of blood spots, after a couple of days they stopped and been clear since, (touch wood) vet thinks it could have been an infection, so fingers crossed.
