I call them all crossbreeds. Else we might have double crossbreeds.....2 crossbreeds crossed etc....

I much prefer the term "bitsa" though. Bitsa this and bitsa that....sounds very exotic.

The Kennel Club told me (on some paperwork they pontlessly sent me) that a crossbreed, regardless of how many times it had been cross was defined as this only if you knew the parentage. So if you knew exactally what breeds be it 2 or 10 and you knew sire and danms names ect then it was a crossbreed. A mongrel is when you have no idea what breeds and or dont know the parentage.
The funny thing is after explaining all this, wether your dog is a crossbreed or a mongrel, you still have to put crossbreed on the paperwork! Pointless telling me really lol

i dont like the term 'mongrel' as i often find people use it negatively. i have no idea what cross jake is (i can guess, but i can never know 100%) but if people ask, i say he is a crossbreed. i think he definitely must have BC in there, so i usually say he is a BCx. i dont think it really matters though, jake is just as good (if not better ) than the pedigrees out there.

yes i agree, it doesnt matter, pedigree or cross there all fantastic! mongrel does sound abit negative. i always say crossbreed with mine. I know my little girl, her mother was a staffir/collie first cross and her dad a rottie/german shepard first cross, my other is from dogs trust so no idea. but there both as speacial to me it makes no difference.

i did find it ammusing the KC giving me a huge explination on the difference only for them to tell me to put crossbreed anyway  silly KC

I`d say a crossbreed is where you know what the breeds in a mixture`s lineage are - and a mongrel if you don`t.
But I tend to say mutt or mix these days because people think `mongrel` is being rude. I like a good Heinz 57 personally.

Its political correctness again, :? its considered an insult to call a dog what it is due to its heritage "a dog of mixed unknown heritage"

I have no problem with calling such dogs mongrels, or crossbreed if the term fits.

Mongrel , mutt, heinz 57 what does it matter they are a dog loved as any other
