Hi from Nicholas, I am a big fan of terriers and asking for information about them, I came across this forum. In particular, I appreciate the German hunting Terriers. I have had before dogs of this breed in many years, but now because of the obligation i don't have enough time for them. That i did not bored at home I got a dog from shelters.
Thank you for the welcome. @ Azz I was set up a link to a page on where was presented this breeds. It seems that the moderators remove this link. German hunting terrier is breed meant for hunting game under the ground, in their burrows. Over time, in addition to hunting fox and badger, performed well in the hunt pheasant and rabbit, especially when hunting wild boar. Thanks to endless persistence, a lot of it in the past used to find wounded game. I think that's his biggest and best role as an assistant during the hunt. German hunting terriers are among the breeds of dogs that are still required to take the exam qualities which make them good during hunting (they are quiet when you shoot, you like to go into the water, to are obedient when moving through the woods and most of all that is never afraid of anything). This is the reason why they did not become popular in the cities as some other race terriers, however the countryside are quite in demand because it is interesting to take a walk with them in the field. I was always find something interesting when I led my german hunting terrier in the field.
I did actually manage to catch the link before it disappeared. They look full of character, and reminded me of the wire haired versions of our Patterdale Terriers. I seem to remember reading that your terriers had some Welsh Terrier blood, whereas the Patterdale has, I think, Lakeland breeding. Patterdales are not KC registered here, but I think they have their own Working Terrier register. Are the German Hunting Terriers FCI registered?
The appearance of the German Hunting Terriers is based on the needs for a good assistant in the hunt. Fur color is such that at any time are clearly distinguished from wild animals, and their size is adapted to search dens of foxes and badgers. They do not an attractive appearance and are always ready for action, and this is why it rarely meet in the cities. They are just perfect for meadow and forest, there is a real pleasure to walk with them.
