On our way home last night we unfortunately broke down, when the recovery man arrived first thing I asked was the dog allowed to travel with us, he said officially no, guess the look on my face got to him as a few mins later he said ill let dog travel with you but don’t tell anyone (bless him) I realise that most major breakdown companies usually use small companies around the country so they are not in direct control of the actual recovery truck/driver. As we will be going touring Scotland later in the year ,if we broke down no way would I want him travelling all that way back home on his own, so had look around and found this . The AA Serviced Animal Friendly Vehicle Breakdown Cover and Recovery Service for just £41.12 per year http://www.prprescue.com/html/showstart.html Small price to pay for peace of mind I think but going to do more research. What recovery do you use and have you had any problems with the dogs.
Had to leave work early several years ago, to pick up Romeo. They would not allow him to ride in a vehicle being towed and he is just to big to ride in a tow truck. Romeo is 240+lbs though, so it was a extreme, and can't really blame them.
I never really thought about it - just assumed your pets would be included! So does the standard AA/RAC not allow pets?
Vee try Green Flag I almost certainly they include one large dog or 2 medium/small dogs in their policy.
I never really thought about this, so Iooked up the roadside assistance info for AAA the most popular nationwide service. From what I read they don't even give people a ride if you break down. They will provide you with taxi or lodging options but you have to pay for them. Liability I guess...I'm sure if you go with a private towing company the driver has the option of being nice.
Is seems to be a 'blanket policy' that the dog has to stay inside your vehicle but in reality, it all comes down to the individual driver. Transporting animals AA The transportation or arrangement of the transportation of any animal (guide dogs or hearing dogs will be transported together with their owner, unless this is not possible for health and/or safety reasons). The AA will not recover horses or livestock. If the AA does at its absolute discretion, agree to transport an animal, and then this will be at your own risk. It is your responsibility to secure any animal being transported or to make alternative arrangements for its transportation RAC http://www.rac.co.uk/advice/pets-and-breakdowns/ Green Flag This is at the discretion of the garage that attends to you at the time of breakdown if you were to have a breakdown when you call through to our control room you would need to inform them of a pet travelling with you, we would then attempt to find a garage that are comfortable with transporting the pet, however we cannot guarantee this if the Recovery Driver refused to take the Dog, it would be up to you to make alternative arrangements! So there's still that niggling doubt about whether or not they would transport a dog .
I may be a bit dim but - Is the prp rescue an addition to an existing AA policy - or complete cover in itself? Also, is the cover only effective if a dog is travelling with you? I suppose you would have to enquire further, but I found the wording on the home page a little confusing.
I've never broken down with the dogs thankfully, although I guess it'd be easier to persuade them to transport a Pug rather than say a Dobermann but tbh I can't see the problem they'd transport a car full of screaming kids so why not a few dogs. I'm sure the Rac asked if I had pets but it renews automatically and my current car has never broken down. My previous one a good German built BMW broke down all the time, well it felt like it but I only had Syd then, the avatar picture. I can't imagine him getting in the cab, so he would have had to stay in the vehicle.
Well i emailed the AA some questions this is reply Unfortunately the AA would be unable to assist with a query regarding cover provided by Show Start as the AA no longer provide this cover it is dealt with via the RAC , in order to deal with this matter please contact them directly. If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me. One would have though they would have put that info on the web page
