After spending most of yesterday in hospital I decided to have a early night, but at 2am I was woken up my the dogs downstairs growling, then K9 & Luna (one of the foster dogs) started growling so I got up tiptoed to the top of the landing & could hear someone downstairs, so I picked up my broom (very handy as can cause men to double over & speak in higher voice) & made my way down the back stairs that lead to the kitchen, as front stairs creak & I wanted to surprise the burglar, I just reached the open door that leads to the family room when I heard a pathetic cry for help, so edging round the open door I saw my nephew lying on his back with Solar (one of the foster dogs) firmly holding my nephew by his neck, the Rottweiler's had arm each & Kobi had decided that standing on my nephews man bits was good way of keeping him down my other JRT's were snapping at nephew. Without telling me my husband asked my nephew to check in on me, totally forgetting about the 4 foster dogs (2 Rottweiler's 1 Rhodesian Ridgeback ? & Akita/Mastiff Mix) I left the Rottweiler's in the dinning room, Solar the Akita/Mastiff mix was downstairs in family room & Luna the Rhodesian Ridgeback ? was upstairs next to my bed (Rhodesian Ridgeback as no ridge so don't think is purebred) well when I got downstairs all the dogs (except Luna & K9) were in the family room keeping the "burglar" on the floor, I couldn't do anything but laugh I had tears pouring down my face, then Luna came charging down the front stairs baring her teeth which just set me off laughing again, I did manage to stop laughing long enough to rescue my nephew. I don't think my nephew will be letting himself in again without ringing me first, but at least he knows now that coming to my home at night can be dangerous, my nephew had his neck man bits & bites checked out by the 111 non emergency paramedic.
I have hadda naccident reading that. You owe me a nincontince pad. No hurry - regular air mail will do as I adda delivery yesterday.
You seem to know a lot about the injuries a broom can inflict, - which of 'your men' did you practice on? Do you realise that by calling the paramedic, you have created another 'vicious dog' incident? Seriously, hope your nephew wasn't too badly damaged, - and it's no wonder you feel faint sometimes with all those dogs to look after. Talk about 'if you want something done, ask a busy person'.
I like the broom solution. I think it would work better than my 2X4 length of wood. Another thing you can do when out alone or walking up to your door is keep your keys in your hand with one sticking out. That key twisted between the ribs is extremely painful.
Yes nephew is ok just few teeth marks on his arms & neck no broken skin, the 111 paramedic saw the funny side & put "playing with dogs" on the report sheet. Has for the broom well I went to an self defence class & they shown us our to use household objects to protect ourselves with such as brooms, umbrellas, pans (for protection only not to seriously injury anyone with) the automatic opening brolly one I liked the best, if your out & think someone is following you, then spin round fast & open brolly this action will startle anyone that as been following you enough to step back & run away (specially if it as point on end of brolly)
I have to laugh about the broom! By the time my two sons were 14 they were both bigger than me and if I got cross, one of them would pick me up and ask me "What's your problem little Mummy"? And they went through a phase of threatening to murder each other and the only way I could stop a fight was by grabbing a broom, stand between them, wave the broom frantically and tell them if they wanted to murder each other, they'd have to murder me first! ..... happy days!
