Loved it! It reminded me of Mabel, a Standard Poodle at a Dog Training Club I used to go to, except she did everything in slow motion. During the recall she would amble around the room, going to see everyone, sit down for a scratch, gaze up at the ceiling, before eventually returning to her poor owner.
Made me laugh, ive seen a few like that over the years at training, most owners laugh and shrug it off but some didnt see the funny side.
I suppose in a real life situation it isn't funny when a dog won't come when it's called. But I would find it impossible not to laugh watching that clip!
In the intermediate/advanced classes at training our trainer used to put out few similar distractions for recall and dogs that normally had good recalls found it to tempting. I remember when I was at obedience show OH used to disappear but chose to show face when I was doing recall, I didn’t see him but Tor knew where he was, when I called him he bombed straight out ring to greet him, I was not amused with OH.
Even Obedience Champions can succumb to temptation. I can remember at Crufts many years ago the retrieve object was an old fashioned mop head. The miniature poodle competing was thrilled to bits, and raced around shaking and 'killing' it.
The annoying thing is, I will probably not be able to sleep tonight because I cannot remember the dog's name. I think the handler was John O'Hara, but I am talking about a LONG time ago! I shall not rest until I remember!
Yes, been there too. Once when Tweed was in a run - off OH decided to move the car to a better spot in the car park. She couldn't see the car park from the ring, but picked up on the engine note, and just stopped and stared. It may not be Obedience, but I guess it is intelligence!
