I have blown up my brand new microwave ..........

I bought a new Microwave today & inside was a booklet with cake recipes inside, so feeling very brave {I don't like using microwaves} I decided to try one of the fruit buns recipes, here are the instructions I carried out to the letter.
1- Mix all dry ingredients together
    2- Mix in dry fruit
3- Mix in the egg and milk gradually
4- pour mixture into cake bun tray
4- place in microwave & cook for 15 mins on cake

So in the microwave went my cake & after only 2 mins there was a loud bang & sparks were flying out of microwave, fearing the worst my 3 men came running into kitchen {fire alarms were going off all over house} to find me standing there watching the microwave sparking. :102:
My brother being the bravest of all my 3 men, unplugged & opened the microwave door, {can't print what he yelled} but lets say it had something to do with me putting an metal bun tray in microwave.
Well how did I know that I was not suppose to use a "metal" bun tray, the booklet never said anything about not using one, it said pour mixture into cake bun tray :101:

With a little white lie the shop as replaced by blown up microwave & given me a £20 voucher to spend on any electrical goods in the shop, I now been banned from using the new replacement microwave :089: but not really bothered as I hate them, I now will be sticking to baking cakes in the oven its a lot safer. :081:

I should point out the microwave as a grill, which you use a metal rack to put your food on, so naturally I used a metal bun tray for my cakes, I think it would of been better if I used one of my silicon bun trays instead.

But, but - I thought EVERYBODY knew you shouldn't put metal trays in a microwave.

My husband once managed to set ours on fire. He was attempting to make porridge, that's all I know. We had some workmen in at the time, and I don't suppose they've stopped laughing yet.

Well no I didn't as it had a grill on & I have seen staff at work putting the pies still in their foil trays straight into microwave, (that too as a grill) so naturally I thought you could with all microwaves that have grills on, I just told the firemen I was testing the fire alarms out when they came to check kitchen was ok.

Small pies in foil trays that are very shallow can be heated in a microwave, as long as the trays are well away from the walls.

    BUT

I would never try it! :D

Mind you I did have a chip pan fire many years ago...

...and a toaster that caught fire

Too late to cancel the one from Amazon now...

    ...it has been dispatched!

As for the chip pan fire, that was a very long time ago. So was the toaster, which had gone back to Hoover about three or four times during the year it was under guarantee because it produced patchy striped toast. Each time they tested it by toasting bread two or three times a day for a few days, and sent it back saying it was toasting perfectly.

The day after the guarantee ran out it caught fire, and I swore never to buy a Hoover product again.

    I never did, either.

I have never toasted bread under a grill - always used a pop-up toaster.

I also have an electric egg boiler because I burned too many egg pans [and had too many exploding eggs] because I forgot about the pans and they boiled dry...

...you see electric egg boilers switch themselves off when they have gotten to the setting you have set them on.

But when I was first married I burned cabbage...
