...I still rely on YouTube for background music, especially mixes - at least I think that is what they call it. And one of my favourite singers is and has been for more years than I can remember, being Barbra Streisand. A couple of weeks ago YT had an hour long "mix" - maybe I already had most on various CDs but this was wonderful and there were definitely songs that I did not have. But it has been pulled as one is copyright or something, so they pulled the lot. Oh well - I have just found this... and it must have been especially for me - look at it on YouTube and just look at the date!
I love Barbara I also like a bit of Shirley bassey..my other half being welsh thinks shirl has the upper hand.what you think malka
I have always loved Streisand's voice, whatever she sings. One of her CDs - which I have actually put on my computer, is "Duets" - some of them make me shiver! X number of years ago I had a [ahem] rather young [ahem] "friend" who always reckoned that this was the perfect song for [ahem] well, I will leave it to you to imagine! Oh - and he had it played at his wedding! Mind you, his new wife knew all about me, and they called their first daughter after me!
Here is another one for you. I thought it was on "Duets" but cannot find it there. And guess who has just ordered another two CDs from Amazon?
Me too - that song really does give me goosebumps. I have always thought that Barbra is really beautiful even though she is not as beauty is supposed to be, whatever that is, and to me her voice is like no other. Her silver fox husband is rather gorgeous as well!
In 1965 when my husband was top world salesman for an American computer company the prize was an all expenses paid trip to the States. Whilst we were in New York we were given tickets for a new show that had just opened on Broadway ... Funny Girl ... starring Sidney Chaplin and an unknown actress named Barbra Streisand. The moment she started to sing, I as well as the rest of the audience, was absolutely spellbound by her voice. She's only a tiny woman but has the most magnificent, and powerful voice! From that moment on I became a Streisand fan!
Funny Girl opened in London - no idea when but I had tickets - and it had to be cancelled as Barbra was pregnant and was ordered to rest - she was married to Elliott Gould and the son she was expecting is Jason and they have recorded songs together. And I never had the chance to see her live. Seen many of her movies - and for me it has always been "Yentl" but maybe you would not understand why but it was always special for me. Papa I can you see me, Papa I can you hear me, Papa - watch me fly... Sorry - the only one I found had Ivrit subtitles.
I've always loved the way she sings "Memories". Gives me chills. I can remember many, many years ago some big shot suggesting that she might want to have a nose job. I believe her answer was that she liked herself just the way she was born and she was very insulted by his suggestion.
