    Vitamix blender

    Anyone got one?

Very tempted, but oh dear, the price! Is it worth it?

I want one but I know I do not need one and TBH I think the price cancels out all wants as far as I am concerned.

What will you be using it for Janet?

If you're after fruit/veg juice, I would go for a masticating juicer instead. Juices oxidise when made in a blender, but when squeezed out in a proper masticating juicer they don't anywhere near as much.

@Azz - you should never ask a woman why she wants yet another kitchen gadget.;)

Janet wants a Vitamix but does not know whether it is worth the price. I want a Vitamix but definitely cannot justify the price, and for me wanting is not the same as needing.

Mind you, if someone gave me one... :D

I have a Nutribullet, I love it. Make myself a green juice/smoothie every morning :)

Funnily enough, I'd just come on now to say I'm going to get a Nutribullet instead, as they are 'only' about £99 - rather less than the Vitamix! Good to hear you are pleased with yours.
What I want I suppose is something I can throw fruit and veg in, and add things like chia seeds and goji berries. Apparently the Nutribullet completely pulverises seeds, skins and stalks and so on. What I also find attractive about it is that they say it's very easy to clean.

So the Nutribullet is what I'll be going for - the Vitamix was trying to seduce me with its ability to make ice cream!

It is very easy to clean, I just rinse of the blade straight after use then the cup when you are done, really simple. Also comes with separate milling blade.

@KitKat - I have a similar thing to the Nutribullet although it is a cheapo copy version, but still works fine.

@Azz - my juicer is a centrifugal one not a masticating one [I do not think the latter were available when I got mine] but I mix some of the pulp residue with the juice and the rest goes into Pereg's first meal.

But I do have a very good six bladed liquidizer which chombles everything so I really do not need a Vitamix or a masticating juicer, do I.

However, if someone offered me one... ;)

Well I ordered my Nutribullet this morning from Amazon. I've had an email to say it's been despatched, so too late to change my mind now!

Must now rearrange the kitchen worktop to make room for it - I don't want to put it away in a cupboard because if I do I won't use it so much.

And now I'm on the lookout for a banana tree in the hope it will stop my bananas over-ripening so quickly!

@Janet - Nutribullets do not take up much worktop space so I do not think you will have a problem finding room for it!

As for bananas - I keep them in the refrigerator. True the skins darken but the bananas themselves keep just about as they were when they went in.

Interesting - I've always been told you shouldn't keep bananas in the fridge and, being an obedient sort of person, have just followed that instruction. But if it works for you, perhaps I'll give it a try.

I keep mine in the fridge too because if there's one thing I hate it's eating over ripe bananas!

I buy bananas [when they are in season and I think it has been and gone already  when they have just changed from green to yellow - in other words ripe enough to eat but not ripe ripe, IYKWIM. And I always buy/bought 6 at a time, although before Avner refused to renew his lease at the macolet, if there were over-ripe ones he would let me have them for grushim for Pereg.

All fruit and vegetables have have to go in the refrigerator - even onions, garlic and potatoes - because of the bdooly mice. And the heat. But they also keep better and for far longer than if they were kept on a counter top - not that I have any spare counter space as my only work surface is - umm - small. Very very small! But then so is my kitchen!

Miniscule is, I think, the word! :044:
