    JRTs chewing shoes

One of the JRT forum members put up that their JRT puppy is chewing their shoes & asked for advice to how to stop their puppy.

Around 70 members said buy several pairs from a charity shop to give to the puppy to chew on & before long the puppy will lose interest, to me that sounds like they are encouraging their puppies to chew shoes.

Personally I would buy chew stop & spray soles of shoes, this method has worked for all my present & previous dogs, I also sprayed around chairs/table legs, bottom of doors & kitchen cabinets & even the plastic dog beds.

All my dogs stopped chewing stuff that wasn't theirs straight away, only thing is it don't work on cats they still sharpened their claws on the stairs banister, doors, chairs/table legs, but lemon juice soon stopped them & didn't have to buy air fresheners for months, as the whole house smelt of lemons.

I don't think giving them more shoes to chew is a good idea either

I'd give them something better to chew, a bone or a chew toy. I'd also put the shoes out of reach when the dog was left unsupervised.

You can get citronella spray that is meant to act as a deterrent - the one I bought (for Cheetah) was horrible tho! A very unpleasant smell - no wonder pets don't like it :101:

You'd think with a name like citronella it would smell of lemons.we had the shoe chewing with my puppy, I soon learnt not to leave shoes about an added more dog toys:)

Well my lovely idiot husband decided to see what chew stop tasted like when we had our first Rottweiler puppies, so he sprayed a little on the back of his hand, he spend the rest of the day in the pub trying to get taste out of his mouth, as for Hercules & Pandora the Rottweiler puppies well they turned out not to be chewers.

When my dogs chewed things they shouldn't I exchanged them for raw hide bones and held them for them until they was chewing them enthusiastically kept them busy for a while.
