    Avocados?

Is it bad for dogs to eat avocados?
    I heard that today.
I add them to my smoothie everyday and sometimes I have let my pups get a little taste and now I am worrying that I might have done them some harm.

The best answer I can give you is to quote the following.

Hope this sets your mind at rest Dagbjört! :)

Avocados over here are so expensive (when you can find them) that I can hardly afford to eat them myself, so the dog's have no chance of even a smell! :018:

The house where I lived in South Africa had an enormous avocado tree growing in the garden and my GSD Sheba used to help herself to any fallen avos. In the season I reckon she'd eat at least half a dozen before breakfast. The other two dogs never showed any interest at all but Sheba absolutely loved them. :048::049:

I've never heard anything adverse about dogs eating avocados and there must be hundreds of dogs in SA who like Sheba eat avocados on a regular basis.

I don't think avocados are toxic to dogs - for humans, they are a super food and excellent for the liver and a great source of good fats, so I'd be quite happy giving my dog them :)

An ex-South African neighbour of mine who came to Israel maybe a year after I did said she would never buy avocados [and mangoes] much as she loved them, as they had avo and mango trees in their back yard [together with just about every other tropical fruit] so no way was she going to pay for them as she would rather go without.

They returned to S Africa a year or so later - probably missing the free fruit! :044:

Thank you so much. I can breath a little easier now. My smoothies are made of various fresh fruits and vegetables, AB milk which is good for digestion, chia seeds, avocados and almonds with almond milk and I give them a tiny bit if they want it. Desty loves it but the other two just want a little sometimes. And Desty was so dissapointed when she didn´t get any today.
