That was a fun walk - NOT!

    argh!! RANT ALERT.

come home from walking phoebe about 45 mins ago and im not a happy bunny. We were 300 yards from home and i see an elderly man with a little dog, off lead walking along the road . I asses the situation and realise ill have crossed over the road before we get to close so carry on as normal. When the little dog looks up and see's us and comes charging up the road barking at us. Phoebe runs behind my legs in panic but after a min or so the little dog has bit her nose and her belly so she goes ape poop crazy. As the elderly man was about as old as god and walking with a stick it took him about 8 minutes to reach us which felt like about an hour. His dog was going mad and also kept running in to road to it could try getting behind us. the situation was absolutely ridiculous i was seconds away from drop kicking this dog to the heavens (i know that is nasty but i was running out of options and phoebe was really hurting me by this point). The man finally gets here and gets his demonic dog then starts to wave his walking stick at me shouting :094: that my dog is nuts and should be put down. Now my mum taught me to respect my elders but i believe respect should be earnt and is mutual this man was showing me none so he was getting none in return. I informed this man that he and his dog were in the wrong and i would report him to the warden for having an out of control dog as his dog was aggressive. He then very smugly told me the rules didnt apply to him as his dog was little the rules are for people like me with my chavey dog :021::021::075::071::071:i quickly turned in to a lunatic so dragged myself and my chavey dog home before i stuffed his walking stick somewhere it shouldnt go

How horrible for you and Phoebe.

And good on you for being able to restrain yourself from giving the owner a mouthful. Knowing me, I'd have told him in some (not) very choice language :091: where to stick himself and his :077: dog and then beaten him around the head with my walking stick! :021: :021:

was very tempting. i wouldnt say my response was very polite. Just glad phoebe didnt hurt his dog as thats trouble i can do without and it was so small she could easily of killed it. she has a small bite mark on her tummy but i think i came of worse as she was rearing up trying to get her collar off so i have huge scratches over my hands, arms and tummy. shes fast alseep now but when he walked back past the front of our house she went nuts at the window. i dont think she will be forgetting this little dog in a hurry

Poor Phoebe - having the blame just for being a big dog. I suspect that it will take hours for your heart rate to drop too. Hope you are able to avoid this horrid person in future. I hate to see any dogs off lead on public roads, but we do see it regularly, even on the A50. Nobody can be sure that their dog wont become startled and cause an accident.

Sounds like he used every stereotype he could think of! Your dog should be put down, the rules don't apply to him as he has a small dog, allowing his dog off lead along the road....

Horrible. But glad you & Pheobe are ok. It's concerning that the little dog is allowed to run in the road! I've never reported anyone to the Dog Warden before, wouldn't even know how to go about it, but I might make an exception for this old git! ;)

Omg!!!! I would have been going nuts. And I would not have hesitated to use my feet to remove the dog from our personal space - if any dog has to get injured, it should be the aggressor.

I would report the incident to the police too - in case he does the same trying to pin the blame on you.

    *hugs to you and Phoebe

My Missy was kicked when she got into a scuffle about 5/6 years back now. Very upsetting for everyone concerned ( although the other owner didn't care less ), but that was what prompted me to seek the help of a behaviourist. I knew she had issues before then of course but it shook me up big time. I partly blame the other owner in that incident as his dog approached us from a field's length away! Anyway, Missy ended up with three fractured ribs, bruising to her lungs, and a huge hematoma on her back from the trauma! I will never forget the sound of the other owner's boot connecting with her ribs!

So for me, kicking a dog is a rather sensitive subject. I can see it from both sides. But, more then I realised, people are willing to defend their dogs to any cost, and that's something I've always been very, very, cautious about ever since.

Thanks guys. Dog warden says he needs an address to do anything. As i see this old man twice a day everyday im going to have to follow him or something but im not exactly comfatable following an old man home. Ive never noticed the dog off lead before but cant say i take much notice of him as im normally in house and just see him pass. Hopefully today taught him a lesson as she was onlead when they went back past so will see if she on lead tonight. I may go and talk to him tonight as tempers should have calmed by then. Its a busy road she shouldnt be off lead here hes just lucky i was at the crossing point that cuts the road to one lane so all traffic is slowed down or stopped waiting

First thing go to vets if Phoebe as any broken skin, also take photos of any bite marks on Phoebe,
Secondly if possible take photo of man walking his dog without lead
Follow man if safe to do so find out where he lives, then demand that the authorities ie Dog Warden / RSPCA do something about the man having out of control dog.

Any one with any size of dog off their lead, MUST be in total control of their dog, I am in full control of all 6 of my dogs but will never ever walk them on street without a lead, as they are terriers & can/will chase squirrels/ birds.

Sorry to hear about Missy getting kicked.

I would try to weigh up the situation tbh, and me shouting GET AWAY would hopefully be enough (can you tell I've got a big gob lol).

im glad i didnt have to kick her as once phoebe was "giving it large" it wasnt coming as close. Thankfully phoebe is already on antibiotics so havnt bothered with vets as its barely left a mark just gave it a good clean with hibiscrub. My arms are killing me thankfully no broken skin just huge red scratches but not the worse phoebe has done to me
