Unfortunately its becoming regular thing now days, as dogs are being stolen from parks, your own back gardens even from their owners, but still I am seeing small cute dogs being tied up outside betting shops, newsagents even supermarkets or left in unlocked cars, I saw a family tie up their spocker outside a supermarket, I waited until they came out & said you didn't tie your 3 children up on rail, yet you did your dog, did all 5 of you needed to go inside, could one of you not stay outside with your dog (children where roughly 13, 14, 16) they took the hump & walked off. I or someone else could of unclipped that dog & walked off with her why they were in the shop & no one would of said a thing as they would think that dog believed to me.
Yes I get that in this day and age leaving anything unattended is asking for grief but walking your dog down the road at 6.20 in the evening is a perfectly normal thing to do. If he really wanted the pup why didn't he just grab it and run after breaking her nose, why the hell kick it hard enough to break it's leg and hip. Stealing it would have been bad enough but the ar*e tried to kill it.
Someone I know tied up her JR outside the Co-op while she went in to do her shopping.. Luckily she knew the cashier, who called her and said 'Isn't that your dog outside? Someone's just walked off with it.' She rushed and caught up with two ELDERLY WOMEN who had the dog. When she challenged them they said they had just found it wandering along dragging its lead, but the cashier had clearly seen them untie it. I've no idea what their motives were - perhaps they were going to sell it, or perhaps they just liked the look of it. I hope the owner and little dog in Brentwood are OK.

We are all vulnerable to a degree especially youngsters and the elderly, yes one should be allowed to walk their dog at any time of day but sadly in this day and age when dognapping is becoming common place I think anyone walking alone especially with a small breed’ is at risk. : As for my own dogs, Kyra loves attention and would go to anyone who offered it, am not sure how she would react if someone tried to take her, whereas Heiko is very wary of strangers and wouldn’t go near them. Well that's me b*ggered then, I have no option other than walking alone most days and have 3 Pugs but I refuse to become paranoid about it and will still walk them off lead and take normal precautions. What do they suggest for gawd's sake that we take to walking in possee's or not walk the dogs. Frankly bits of that story make no sense apart from the trained Gun dog some of the prices quoted for adult dogs are laughable. There are loads of genuine rehomes where people can't give the dogs away on the internet let alone sell them on with no papers etc. for some extortionate amount.
I organized an dog walking group 7 years ago when I first had K9, there are now 20 all season walkers & 10 seasonal walkers, as many of my members are elderly we walk 2 times per day as a group, early morning & early evening, as I am walking down the street I am knocking on members doors, by time we get to the park there are about 60 people (partners & children included) not only safer for the elderly members its safer for the children too as they are learning not all dogs are friendly, plus its harder for dogknappers to grab your dog.
You know I actually thought about doing a site where people could arrange to meet fellow dog walkers, although mainly it was for puppy socialisations - but I can definitely see it as useful for people who might want to use it to meet up with other dog owners in their area. Maybe it could be my first iPhone app
I like walking alone or with one other person, walking with a crowd would be my idea of hell. I use my dog walks to interact with my dogs not people. I might have a 5 minute chat with someone but I quickly move on and I concentrate on my dogs, where they are and what they're doing, people are a distraction. I like the peace and quiet in the woods when we don't meet another soul and intensely dislike it at busy times such as the weekends and bank holidays, so if I'm not out by 7am at the latest on those days then I won't go. Funnily enough midweek mid day is the quietest. I'm just a social outcast
I'm not far behind you Trouble! I loved our walks up the mountain where we never saw a soul - total bliss. But for street walking, or on the local path it's nice to have some company (for the dogs if nothing else). Though I probably wouldn't want big crowds either, unless I was socialising a pup
I think I've got enough company and I always manage to collect another one at some point on the walk. I must admit I have an aversion to street walking and always head for the woods, we're spoilt for choice to be fair.
How bloody awful is that...........the culprit should be tied to a stake, and people should have free rein to do to him what they will. As for walking alone when taking the dog out, I always used to pound the fields with our last dog, and in the winter it was still dark when we went out. So many people were horrified that I went alone, but I always felt completely safe. I still feel safe here, even though because of the Jimster's paws the walks are often on pavements - but we are lucky to live on the edge of a very small rural town. Still, nobody is immune and it is a worrying thought.
This is not far from where I lived before moving to Harlow then Norfolk. My sister lives the other side of town to this and although she rarely walks her Whippet on her own her OH always walks her and I wasn't sure to let them know or not on Sunday when I first heard about it. I decided to ring after reading the news and as it tuned out her OH was out for the day and she decided not too walk Maisie. Maisie is a rather pretty blue colour and white and gets lots of attention. I did say he is probably long gone but best to be safe than sorry. Very worrying reading these stories.
