Anybody else using the Yellow Dog ribbons??

I friend introduced me to the yellow ribbon thing a few months ago. Ive bought phoebe the vest as i doubt people will know what a little ribbon on my lead means. Just wondered if anybody else has tried it and if people took any notice?

incase you dont know what it is - yellow ribbon are trying to raise awareness of some dogs needing space when out and about and to show that your dog need space you put a yellow ribbon on your lead or a yellow vest or bandana. Ive bought phoebe the vest that says on it " I need space". shes not happy about that so havnt worn it outside yet

This is a brilliant idea Katy, I wish more non-dog owners would realise that not all dogs want kids in their face or attention from people.

    Wonder if it works?

I think that it's a brilliant idea, but it really does need a massive publicity drive so that people know what it means and even then, you will still get the numpties who don't take any notice of anything unfortunately. Red ribbons have been used on horses tails since the year dot to warn people to keep their distance, but still some people ignore the danger.

It's worth a try though, and if you can get through to the people around you then that will be a start.

It's a great idea but the only problem is there is already a yellow ribbon associated with teen suicides http://www.yellowribbon.org perhaps that is making it more difficult to gain traction?

Crikey - I can see that might be a huge stumbling block and may necessitate a total rethink on the colour.

Oh didnt know that. I think the vest work ok as they are bright yellow and say i need space in big letters. I dont think the ribbon on a lead would work i doubt people would notice it so havnt even bothered with that. Ive had a lead that says i need space and nobody even noticed it. Hopefully the vest will work if i can get her to actually wear it

You have my utmost sympathy! Jimmi refuses to wear coats of any description but he does just about tolerate an Equafleece, so perhaps your girl will eventually put up with her vest. I hope so, because the bright colour and large lettering should get peoples attention. Good luck with it anyway

I tried using the yellow ribbon with my bc/lab but unfortunatly people did not respect it even though I explained what it meant. I think the idea is wonderful but it does need a worldwide press to get people familirized with it´s meaning.

I think this could work well if there's enough info out there to make dog owners aware of their meaning.

I not keen on the so called yellow ribbon as you have to be on top of the dog before you see it, but I am keen for these harnesses, collars, leads to be used when walking dogs $_12.jpg $_126.jpg $_124.jpg

I have 3 of need harnesses : blue working for K9 use this on hot days when its too warm for him to wear his system alert jacket, orange No Dogs for Dottie as she not keen on other dogs invading her space & red Caution one for Kobi as he can some times get over excited when meeting people & can nip, the harnesses have been a life saver

Our vets have had a large poster up for about a year now but I'm not convinced by ribbons, vests, leads or whatever because you need to be very close to see/read the writing and for many it's that closeness that causes the issues. Luckily my dogs have no issues and we tend to give everyone space tbh simply because us appearing in a group can be a bit intimidating, we let others approach us if they want to. My little uns wear puppia harnesses very similar to some of those posted and they wear colours to match their collars. Phoenix wears red and I'd hate to think people would think they need to be cautious around her.

I would need one that said "do not pick up" for my crew as they don´t like being picked up by strangers but for some reason people tend to try to do it anyway.

I put the red caution one on Kobi as it does stop children running towards him & hugging him, as he gets very excited & without realizing he nips noses & lips.
Its one of my pet hates when children run to hug my dogs, they think all small dogs are puppies, I really can't understand why parents allow their children to touch a strange dog let alone try to hug a strange dog, when on park or in street, I did have a go at a child for trying to hug Kobi (he now's wear the red caution harness) this child's mum was very angry at me for stopping her daughter & very abusive, I told her that I was going to report her for child abuse this stop the mother dead, she could not or would not accept that her daughter should not go round hugging strange dogs.
