If I could have my time all over again, I'd definitely be having one of these, or maybe 2.....or even 3!! Absolutely gorge, I'm loving these dogs more than gsd's now:blush: Well, almost!!!! Such prescence (sp? can't spell that word tonight!) and I am in awe:007: :007: :007:

    WHAAAAAT Helen .... <<faints with shock>>

    I can't believe you said this ....

"I'm loving these dogs more than gsd's now" ...

Please retract that statement immediately! :021:

:005: :005: :005: I do agree though that Malis certainly have a sort of "presence" about them. I could be tempted by that big lad in the photo, but I just love my GSDs too much

Yes they do - but so do cats....

You need a sense of humour to own a Belgian of any variety; and if you think they are going to behave like GSDs because they look like them (and let's face it, Belgium and Germany are near neighbours) -forget it.

GSD owners love the stability, reliability and predictability of their breed.

BSD owners know they own a nutty, highly sensitive, eccentric, reactive, unpredictable but also trainable and very loyal and loving breed.

It's hard to define the differences, but as I've said before, if you have had experience of BCs and WSDs you'll be up to speed with the reactiveness which is a big issue.... and they have it in spades, especially the working lines. Even so, the show lines have the same tendencies to some degree... they are not dogs for the unprepared novice owner. But if you love a dog with character, quirks, and you like to learn, want to train, and appreciate eccentricity, look no further.

Just watch this vid - I love it - here is a highly trained Malinois... doing what it wasn't trained for, but just being itself...

LOVE it Sue !!!

...the secret with BSD is to 'think dog' -they're easily ruined by harsh or insensitive handling but if you're the right kind of owner then nothing else will do - that combination of brains, agility, intense loyalty and beauty is simply devastating ...it speaks volumes for the breed that most BSD owners own more than one ;-)

It has been "booked" for 7 years but I can only have 2 dogs at a time. Currently I am too busy to have a new pup but when the time is right next year and the right litter is around from my chosen breeder (same one as bred my GSD) then a Malinois will be joining the household, probably a bitch, as two high drive entire males in my domestic circumstances is probably out of the question.

    So, that is the plan.

Oh that is brilliant news. How can you plan seven years ahead? I have a limit of about seven minutes! Will you work them together, how old will she be, will they need any different methods? And.....What does Arrow say?

Gorgeous. Have to say if I didn't have my heart set on a WL GSD I would be seriously looking at a Mal. (Don't worry Moobli - I'll always be a GSD girl at heart!   )

Your description for the Malinois there sounds very like my first GSD actually

Having owned and trained GSDs and WSDs, I think I could probably handle a Mali, but I can't see me ever being torn away from GSDs

:005: @ the video. How embarrassing would that be :005:

I will not be following Suzanne Jaffa down that route......................... :)

I was tempted by a Laekenois but I am afraid Groans and Tervs have FAR too much hair for me! :)
